Richard Montville, 95, of Bridgewater, MA passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on November 15, 2025.

Richard loved life and was happiest when spending time with his family. Being a Dad, Papa and Great Papa was his pride and joy. Richard loved his country and served in the US Army and was granted an honorary discharge and he was also a long time member of the American Legion. After leaving the army he opened his own diner in Dorchester before moving to Weymouth to raise his family. He then started a career at Harvard University as a chef and eventually became Director of Food Services. He enjoyed traveling with his late wife Loretta and spent winters at their condo in Cocoa Beach, FL where he loved to play golf. He also was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. At 95 years old he was the last surviving member of his siblings.

Richard was the devoted husband of Loretta (Sansone) Montville for almost 60 years until she preceded him in death in 2018. He is survived by his children, Jean Kelly and her husband John, Joanne Creutz and her husband Tom, Jackie Deady and her husband Bob, Joseph Montville and his wife Denise. He is preceded in death by his son James. Richard leaves behind a long legacy of family, including 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren whom he adored and they will all miss him dearly.

Visitation will be held at the Chapman Funeral Home, 98 Bedford Street, Bridgewater on Thursday, November 20th from 4-7pm. Family and friends are cordially invited to a funeral service on Friday, November 21st at 8:45am at the funeral home. Burial will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 10:45am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St Judes Hospital and New Hope Chapel in Plymouth and where Richard attended church with his daughters.
