Richard Alan Mosher
Linwood, Michigan
The larger-than-life presence and personality of Richard Alan Mosher, known lovingly as Dick, left us on the morning of Friday, April 14th, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, love and laughter that touched so many. Dick was born on October 5, 1946, and raised on the West side of Bay City, Michigan, the son of Dorothy and Walter Mosher, also of Bay City. He was a dedicated husband, father, and friend who will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
Following his father's premature death, Dick devoted himself to helping his mother and younger siblings. A graduate from Handy High School, he met his wife of 53 years Margaret (Marge), at White's Drive Inn. They had their first date December 7th, 1965. Soon after, Dick found himself overseas having volunteered to serve with the Navy in Vietnam. His service as a Seabee (MNCB) took him through both North and South Vietnam, where he had a distinguished service record. Dick proposed to Marge while in the Navy and they were married during a shore leave.
Marge gave birth to their first daughter prematurely while Dick was overseas. Believing they wouldn't survive, the Navy arranged multiple planes to race him home to Marge. Thankfully, Ashley and Marge were healthy and four years later, Marge gave birth to his son, Garrett.
Following his duty overseas, Dick returned to his work with Ironworkers Local 25. He was respected by his peers for his acumen and safety record, particularly for his expertise in helicopter work, having successfully landed steel in some of the most challenging situations across North America. Coworkers could depend on Dick to "get his end."
He volunteered as an Assistant Scoutmaster in Boy Scout Troop 132 and coached Garrett's baseball team. He had a love of the outdoors and looked forward to his annual hunting trip to the upper peninsula's Drummond Island every winter with Garrett and friends. While the hunting wasn't always successful, the good times were many. Dick was known for his quick wit and one-of-a-kind Dick Mosher retorts, which always had those around him laughing.
In retirement, Dick could be found on the golf course with Marge and friends or at home caring for his cherished grandsons, Parker and Ethan. He became quite the cook in retirement and was known as "The Cookie Man" for his famous sugar cookies that found their way into the hands of kids around Michigan and into mailboxes of kids as far as Texas. He also lent his time and talents to friends throughout mid-Michigan. It was not uncommon to wake up and find Dick in his workshop building something for a friend.
Dick is survived by his wife, Margaret (Kehrer), his daughter Ashley Holzhei, his son Garrett Mosher (Catherine), his grandsons, Parker and Ethan Holzhei, and his many friends, family, and loved ones throughout the state of Michigan, across the country, and around the world. His memorable presence and personality will be deeply missed, but the impact he made on those around him will never be forgotten.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Prince of Peace Parish - St. Anne Campus, Linwood, Michigan, with Rev. Fr. Matthew Federico presiding. Family will greet friends on Friday, April 21, 23 from 3:00-8:00 PM at Rivertown Funeral Chapel, Kawkawlin, Michigan, and from 10:00 AM until the time of Service at Prince of Peace Parish - St. Anne Campus, Linwood, Michigan.
