It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Richard V. Murray, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who left this world on January 2, 2025, at the age of 73 in Yardley, Pennsylvania. Born on November 18, 1951, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Richard lived a life marked by dedication, humor, and a profound love for his family.

For over three decades, Richard served as the foreman of the sheet and tin division at U.S. Steel's Fairless Works, where he was respected for his commitment and leadership. His work ethic was matched only by his spirited personality, well-known among friends and family for his endearing "dad" jokes, which continue to echo in cherished memories.

A graduate of Bristol High School, Richard was not only an accomplished student but also a standout athlete, earning accolades as a wrestler and swimmer. His competitive spirit thrived outside the classroom as well; he relished the camaraderie of playing softball for the U.S. Steel softball team, reflecting his lifelong passion for sports. An ardent fan of baseball and football, Richard held steadfast loyalty to the Philadelphia Phillies and the Philadelphia Eagles, sharing his enthusiasm with those close to him.

Beyond sports, Richard's interests were wonderfully varied. He immersed himself in the intricate details of the Civil War, nurturing this enthusiasm through extensive research and discussions. His love for music was profound; he enjoyed strumming his guitar while finding solace and inspiration in the timeless melodies of Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Billy Joel, and the Beatles. Additionally, his garden flourished under his care, revealing his nurturing instincts. Richard also enjoyed cooking, and sharing his tasty creations to all.

Richard's legacy is woven into the fabric of his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Kathleen M. (Tighe) Murray, with whom he shared his life and dreams. His daughter, Kristin Murray, and son-in-law, Josh Schmitter, along with his cherished granddaughter, Persephone, will carry forth his spirit. He is also survived by his brothers Ronnie and Lorraine Murray, and Andy and Connie Murray, extending his familial bond further with numerous nieces, nephews, and many more who held him dear, including Scott, Dan, Lindsay, Megan and Kelly.

He joins his departed parents, Vernon Murray and Charlotte Dallas Murray, who now embrace him in eternal rest. Also welcoming him into paradise will be his beloved dog Lizzie and cat Emory. Richard's presence will be profoundly missed, yet his vibrant laughter and unwavering love will forever resonate within the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Richard's remarkable life during a visitation at J. Allen Hooper Funeral Chapel and Cremation Services on January 21, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM, concluding at 12:00 PM. It is through this gathering that we shall honor his memory, sharing stories and laughter, reminiscent of the joy he brought into our lives.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider making a memorial contribution, in Richard’s name, to The ALS (www.als.org).
