Richard R. Murvin Jr., a cherished husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away at the age of 75, on December 11, 2023, in Newport, North Carolina, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral service will be held at Noe-Brooks Funeral Home on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Family will receive visitors at Noe-Brooks Funeral Home prior to service at 10:00 a.m. Following the service an interment will take place at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, at 2:00 p.m.
Born on March 17, 1948, in New Bern, North Carolina, Richard was a man of integrity, kindness, and a gentle spirit that touched the lives of all who knew him. Richard was a graduate of Charles B. Aycock High School. His commitment to his community was evident from an early age and continued throughout his life. After high school, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army, where he not only defended the nation's values but also built a foundation of discipline and respect that would define his character. Upon returning to civilian life, Richard found his calling in the service of others, managing a local grocery store with a warm smile and an open heart. His work ethic and dedication to his customers made him a beloved figure in the community. Later, he would channel his meticulous nature and problem-solving skills into a successful career as a locksmith, securing the trust of those he served as steadfastly as the locks he expertly crafted.
Richard's passions extended beyond his professional life. He was an avid fisherman, finding peace and solace in the tranquility of nature's waterways. His love for woodworking and building reflected his desire to create, to bring beauty and function into the world with his own hands. The great outdoors was his sanctuary, a place where he felt most at home and where he could share his love for adventure with his family and friends.
Family was the cornerstone of Richard's life. He is survived by his devoted wife, Verena J. Murvin, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and cherished memories. His legacy lives on through his daughters, Jaclyn (Becky) Murvin and Chrissie Kieth, and his brothers, Kenneth and Benny Murvin.
Though his mother, Dela Rebecca Underwood and father, Richard Murvin Sr., preceded him in death, the values they instilled in him remained a guiding light throughout his journey.
As we commemorate Richard's life, we are reminded of the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children... to leave the world a bit better... to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." Richard embodied this sentiment, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those he encountered. Richard's life was a testament to the power of love, the strength of family bonds, and the joy of a life well-lived. His memory will be held dear, not only in the extraordinary moments but also in the quiet, everyday acts of kindness that defined him. He was a beacon of light and love, and though he may have departed from this world, his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us.
As we bid farewell to Richard, we will celebrate a life that was rich in experiences and abundant in love. He was a source of unwavering support and a wellspring of wisdom, and while he will be deeply missed, the lessons he taught us and the love he gave us will endure forever. In honoring Richard's life, we take comfort in knowing that he lived fully, loved deeply, and left a legacy of warmth and generosity that will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, Richard R. Murvin Jr., until we meet again.

My heart hurts for my mom she lost the love of her Life, the kindest man that stepped into our lives. Mom was the happiest I have ever seen her. I know we all have our time I just wish she had more time, He truly was her gift from God and I know they will see each other again.
