Col. Richard "Rick" Wayne Nichols (Ret), 76, of San Antonio, TX passed away on Monday, October 30, 2023, in San Antonio, TX.
A visitation will be held on Monday, November 6, 2023, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Dellcrest Funeral Home Chapel, 2023 W.W. White Rd, San Antonio, TX. The rosary will begin at 6:00 PM. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 14011 FM 1346 Saint Hedwig, TX. Interment will follow at Annunciation Catholic Cemetery. A reception will be held following the burial at the John Paul II Center.
Rick was born on May 25, 1947, in San Antonio, TX to the late Elvin Nichols and Effie Warren Nichols. He married Linda Kay Jonietz on October 17, 1970. Rick served proudly and retired from the Texas Army National Guard after over 20 years. In addition, he worked and retired from Kelly AFB as a civil service leader and finally retired from the State of Texas Armory working to ensure security of the arsenals. Throughout his life he worked hard to provide a good life and example for his family. He made friends wherever he went and lived his life with a sense of joy. He was always ready to mentor others and help anyone who needed it. Rick was a great husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, kidding around and laughing. If he poked fun at you or gave you a hard time, you knew it was because he liked you. He had the biggest sweet tooth and was always ready for a good steak. He enjoyed spending time with his wife Linda, riding and taking care of their horses. This hobby brought them a circle of friends known as their "Barn Family" that they cherish. Most importantly, Rick was a man of faith and a devoted member of the Catholic Church. He lived his life for God and ensured that he instilled his love for God in his family.
Rick is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Linda Kay Nichols; daughters, Denise Hunt and husband Chad, Stephanie Loera and husband Roel; grandchildren, Ashleigh Hunt and Christopher Hunt; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
