Richard Keith O'Connor, age 60, son of Philomena Polio O'Connor and the late Robert R. O'Connor, passed away unexpectedly over Derby weekend at his home.
At age 7, Richard was diagnosed with leukemia and given two years to live. He was our miracle.
Richard never met a stranger. He was a financial advisor for many years, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends, thoroughbred racing, Kern's Korner and going to the gym.
Rich was preceded in death by his dad; grandparents, Dora Karem Polio and Joseph Polio, and Jack and Mary Renshaw O'Connor.
He is survived by his mom; siblings: Shaun McCrea (Bruce), Donna Ford (Kevin), Rob (Laurie) and Caryn Mucci (Don). He also loved and enjoyed being with his 12 nieces and nephews, and 13 great nieces and nephews. To his friends, Richard loved each one of you and so treasured the times he spent with you.
A memorial visitation will be Thursday, May 9th, 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm, at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Friday at 10:00 am, at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church, 2141 Lanchashire Avenue, with burial of his ashes to follow at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or St. Meinrad Archabbey.
There is some comfort in knowing Rich spent Derby weekend with his dad in heaven.

I knew Richard as a young guy. Always a smile even though he had health issues. Good dude. My family knew his family more than I did. They speak very highly of Richard and all of his family.

Richard was a cool guy and second cousin to me. I especially loved to arm wrestle him or catch him off guard at OutBack as I would punch him in the arm from behind just to see his reaction. Rest in Peace, Richard. Love - Amy (Dietz) Elliott
