Richard Roy Petrelli, 84, of Quincy formerly of Charlestown, died Tuesday June 24, 2025 at his home in Quincy Point. He was the devoted husband of the late Christine (Ogiba) Petrelli.
Born in Boston June 27, 1940, Richard was one of three children born to the late Charles and Esther (Dellorfano) Petrelli. He was raised in Charlestown and graduated Charlestown High School where he excelled in sports. He was an incredible baseball player in his youth, with a strong athletic history and many stories to back it up. Some even say he could've been drafted to the MLB if only he could have gained some weight.
From 1961 to 1964 Richard served his country with distinction in the US Army. He was honorably discharged August 14, 1964 with the rank of Specialist.
Richie had a long and fruitful career as a Bookkeeper with the car rental giant Hertz Corporation, and retired several years ago to enjoy life with his beloved Christine.
In 1968 he married his God-sent sweetheart, Christine. The two were joined in Holy matrimony for 56 years at the time of her death just barely a year ago in June 2024. His passions were his wife, his family, and the church. "Chris" was the love of his life and their love story was one to be envied. They did everything together. They loved to laugh, drink wine, tell stories and play games. Holidays with the family were cherished and everyone loved the laughter that surrounded their presence. "Richie and Chris" were one soul that filled a room with love and happiness; and they are blessedly reunited once again in Heaven.
Loving brother of the late Ronald Petrelli and his wife Marjorie (Medland) Petrelli of Stoughton, and the late Carol (Petrelli) O'Brien. Brother in law of Andrew Ogiba of Quincy, Philip Ogiba of Chicopee and Paul Ogiba of California. Dear uncle to Sharon Rae and her husband Michael of Wilmington, Cheryl Quigley and her partner Steve Suid of Woburn, Robert O'Brien of Andover, Stephanie Russell and her husband David of Woburn, David Petrelli of California and Laura Suwena and her husband Wayan of Walpole. Also survived by 9 great-nieces and nephews and 10 grand-nieces and nephews, and he always wanted to make sure his family all knew that he knew the difference.
Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday July 2, 2025 at 10:00am in St. Joseph's Church, 550 Washington St, Quincy Point. Burial with military honors to follow at Blue Hill Cemetery, 700 West St, Braintree.
