Richard Lloyd Powell of Bedford, Texas passed away peacefully at HEB Hospital Friday afternoon, November 15, 2024. Dicky, as he was known by most, was born in Miami, Florida on August 14, 1953.

Dicky lived most his adolescence in Miami, but also lived in Kwajalein, Marshall Islands and Karachi, Pakistan while a teen. He moved back to Florida to graduate from Southwest Miami Sr. High School in 1971. Dicky was passionate, creative and witty; but would give you the shirt off his back. He could bake a cheesecake better than a New Yorker, build a race car engine from scratch, play the piano and 6 & 12 string guitar. He created beautiful knives with handmade blades and handles of exotic woods and he raced dirt bikes competitively. Dicky loved cooking, camping, the outdoors and was even a competitive pool player from an early age and throughout life.

In 1974, Dicky and then girlfriend, Sandra (Powell), moved to Texas, both only 21. He worked for Southwestern Bell then served as Head Mechanic for the AMA Grand National Champion & Hall of Fame Motocross rider, Mike Kidd. In 1980, Dicky completed his EMT & Firefighter training; earning his certification and achieving (10 yr) tenure with the North Richland Hills Fire Department.

Dicky is survived by his wife of 50 years (married 43 yrs), Sandra Wyrick Powell, his sister Sarah Powell Mastay, of FL. His nieces Cindy Parrott, Patti Dunn, Denise Powell, Diane Mastay, Natalie Pineiro, Catherine Johnson- all of FL; Patricia Sansone, Candace Atkins, Karly Sims, Hannah Moreno, Breanna Kattner & nephew Jack Graves- all of TX.

Dicky is preceded in death by his parents, Lilly & Lloyd Powell of FL, brother William Powell of FL, sister Linda Simpson of TX, nephews Billy Powell of FL, David Powell of FL, Scott Simpson of TX and Bruce Mastay of FL.

Dicky did not want anyone to mourn him and requested there not be memorial or funeral services, but instead to let his spirit live on in the many special memories he had with so many family and friends. He will be remembered for his generosity and kindness to others, his love for family, and the many smiles, laughs and jokes with friends. For now the family may receive condolences through this format provided.
