We gather here today with profound sorrow to announce the passing of our beloved father, son, and brother, Richard Allen Prater, on May 10, 2025.
Richard Prater of Linwood, KS, was born on March 29, 1975 and was deeply cherished by his parents, Dick and Carol Prater; his brother, John Prater; and his children, Dalton, Hannah, and Emma Prater.
Richard loved spending time with his family and friends, fishing, and riding his motorcycle. He was always very selfless, consistently prioritizing his family's needs first. A beloved family man and biker, Richard had a heart as vast as the open roads. He was a friend to all and was cherished by many, especially within the biker community.
Richard attended De Soto High School and lived a life filled with passion and adventure. Whether he was riding his motorcycle, experiencing the freedom beneath him, casting a line, hunting for mushrooms, or floating down the river, Richard found joy in the simple pleasures of life. To those who knew him, Richard was like a teddy bear-a big, goofy guy with an even bigger heart. He made friends wherever he went; he truly knew no strangers.
Richard was renowned for his kind spirit, generous nature, and the love he shared with everyone around him.
He is survived by his children, Dalton, Hannah, and Emma. Everyone who knew Richard understood just how excited he was to become a grandfather to his expecting daughter, Hannah's first baby, his first grandchild, Maybelle. Richard's memory will forever live on in the hearts of his children, family, friends, and all who were touched by his warmth and laughter.
On Sunday, May 18th a Memorial Ride will be at Noon at the Hilltop Bar & Grill in Tonganoxie, kickstands up at 1:15 pm, to leave for the De Soto VFW, where his Celebration of Life will begin at 2:00 pm.
