James Dean "Jim" Owens, age 65, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, August 30th, 2025. Born in Kansas City, Kansas on August 29th, 1960, to Samuel and Barbara Owens, Jim's life was a testament to his kind heart and unwavering dedication to family and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents, Jim leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. He is survived by his devoted wife, Deborah Owens; his son, Kyle Owens; his brother, William Owens of Valdosta, Georgia, his sisters, Delores Steen and Sandy Haile of Loveland, Colorado; and numerous cherished nieces and nephews-all of whom he held incredibly dear.

Jim graduated from De Soto High School in 1978 and dedicated 18 years to the De Soto School District, working diligently in the C-Tech building at Cedar Trails. His skilled hands had also built homes as a carpenter, a testament to his hard work and craftsmanship. Beyond his professional life, Jim was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan, finding joy in cheering on his team. He found solace in tending his yard, spending time with his beloved dog, Buddy, and hosting gatherings for his loved ones. His annual Halloween bonfire parties were legendary, filled with warmth, laughter, and the spirit of community he so deeply cherished.

Jim's easy-going nature, kind heart, and unwavering work ethic touched the lives of everyone he met. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 8th, at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs, Kansas. The burial of ashes will follow in the Bonner Springs Cemetery.
