Emmet was born February 4, 1941 in Lawrence, KS to John (Hickory) and LaReta (Reta) Kurtz.
He graduated from De Soto High School in1959 and lived in De Soto his whole life. Emmet's greatest joys in life were his family, friends and helping people. He had a love for cars and the casino with his money and theirs. He belonged to the "De Soto Drag Masters" and enjoyed working in his garage.
Preceded in death by: parents Hickory and Reta and sons Douglas Kurtz and Joseph Lemos.
Survivors: life partner Mary (Molly) Russell of De Soto, KS; son Craig (Becky) Kurtz of Shawnee, KS; brother Larry (Dixie) of De Soto, KS; sister Donna (Bob) Bartholomew of Eudora, KS; stepsons Dan Russell and Andy (Hillary) Russell of Kansas City and grandson Jax
