Richard Douglass Puckett was born March 5, 1990, in Oklahoma City, OK, to Richard and Stacey Puckett. He is survived by his mother, father, two sisters, Jillian Mainus-Perez, and Sammie DiTata, and three brothers, Duane, Bryan, and Michael Puckett, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He attended Mustang Public Schools, and in his school years, he enjoyed youth lifeguarding, participated in several cheerleading competitions, and enjoyed swing dancing. After high school, he studied at Canadian Valley Tech, becoming a certified wind technician. Since childhood, he loved climbing to great heights.
He truly loved learning and trying new things. Professionally, Ritchie was a licensed insurance agent, a licensed realtor, a car and RV salesman, and in between his main gigs, supplemented his income as a top-notch server at several restaurants. He never met a stranger, easily making friends wherever he went. Known by many monikers – Rich, Ritchie, Doug – it was safe to say that if you knew him, you knew just how much he loved anything involving water or music (especially if they involved both).
The ocean was his favorite place of all. As an adult, he moved to Central Florida – he had finally found his happy place. During his nine years in Florida, he became an ordained minister just so he could marry his friends on the beach. He absolutely loved performing those wedding ceremonies, often just as excited as the bride and groom! Life, for Ritchie, was an adventure in so many ways.
His struggles with mental health began after he was the victim of a brutal attack that forever changed him. He struggled to overcome and conquer the demons that inevitably followed. His family never stopped searching for help or the answers to ease his burden, right up until the day he left this world. Behind his beautiful smile and those brilliant blue eyes lay a hurt that was simply too deep to bear.
As we say our goodbyes, let us remember all the wonderful times we shared with Richard. May his quick wit and his infectious smile and laughter leave us all with hearts full of fond memories. He will be deeply and forever missed.
