Richard L. Sandberg, 81, of Dacula Georgia passed away February 22, 2024.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Edith Sandberg, and his brother, Kenneth Sandberg. Richard is survived by his bride of 59 years, Jeanette Sandberg, along with his son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Laura Lee Sandberg of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and his daughter and son-in-law, Kari and Ed Spannagel of East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. Richard has four grandchildren: Nicholas Sandberg and his wife, Alexis; Kayla Sandberg; Kate Sandberg; and Ethan Sandberg. He is also survived by numerous extended family members, including in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.
Richard was born on Staten Island, NY where he attended Curtis High School and graduated from Pace University. From his childhood stories he certainly kept his parents on their toes, I'm not sure how he got away with it all – my guess is they only knew half of the mischief he, his brother and his friends got in to. As a youth Richard was an active Boy Scout and was an Eagle Scout. He later served as Scout Master of Troop 49 in Iselin, NJ.
Richard and Jeanette were blessed to share 59 years of marriage. They started their marriage on Staten Island, moved to New Jersey, later lived in Pennsylvania and settled down fully retired in Dacula, Georgia. Richard loved his home in Dacula. Richard was a member of Christ the Lord Lutheran Church; he volunteered at the Aurora Theater in Lawrenceville and volunteered at the Lawrenceville Co-Op Food Bank.
So many of his family members have fun memories of Richard as a husband, Dad and Grandfather. He loved to travel and was always open to any adventures his wife came up with. From family gatherings and vacations, camping and going to the beach, backyard barbeques and pool days, he leaves us with so much to reminisce about.
Richard was a proud Norwegian and a stubborn Swede. All in good fun he passed down his pride of his heritage to his family as a member of the Sons of Norway for many years. Richard was an avid American Flyer train collector. He was never too old to play with his trains and loved to show off his train layout or explain how each engine and train car was unique. He never passed up an opportunity to ask everyone he met if they had any trains they wanted to sell.
We will miss Richard greatly; he is gone suddenly and too soon for us. We know that he will always look down on us with pride and gratitude. We love you, Richie, Dad and Grandpa!
A Funeral Service Honoring the Life of Richard will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at 11:00AM at Tom M. Wages Lawrenceville Chapel. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 27th from 10:00AM until the time of service at 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Hospice of Northeast Georgia.
Condolences may be sent or viewed at www.wagesfuneralhome.com. Tom M. Wages Funeral Service, 120 Scenic Hwy., Lawrenceville, GA 30046 (770-963-2411) – Lawrenceville Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.

I have incredibly fond memories of working with Dick. He dubbed me `The Baroness´ and regaled me with tales of his beloved `bride´ and his trains-and he ALWAYS made me laugh. Safe passage dear friend!!!
