Mr. Richard W. Smith, age 98, of Rome, GA, passed away peacefully at his residence surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.

Richard was born in Chattanooga, TN, on August 13, 1927, son of the late J. Orvil Smith and the late Rachel Overby Smith. He was also preceded in death by his stepson, Melvin Satterfield. Mr. Smith was a veteran, having proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was Presbyterian by faith. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, playing softball, and square dancing, line dancing, and clogging with the love of his life, Janie.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janie Potts Smith; his children, Linda Burke, Mike Smith, Joan Kines, Jerry Satterfield, Janice Moses, Janice Turner, and Ricky Smith; his grandchildren, Kirk Rickman (Jan), Mark Rickman (Lori), Kelly Hardy (Michael), William Burke, David Burke, Jacob Kines (Valarie), Bradley Satterfield, Ryan Satterfield, Chris Charles (Jessica), Ashley Harcrow (Jesse), Del Moses (Angela), Jeni Moses, Daniel Moses, Michael Smith, and Elizabeth Palopoli (Matthew).

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 16, 2026, at 11:00am in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, with his grandson, Rev. Dr. Jacob Kines, officiating. Interment will follow at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens, where the Rome Americal Legion Honor Guard will render military honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that you consider making a donation the American Legion Post #5 Honor Guard, P.O. Box 3311 Rome, GA 30164.
