Richard Wayne Soileau, 86, passed away on Wednesday, November 26, 2024 at his home in Dry Creek, Louisiana. He was a native of Mamou, Louisiana. Wayne was a member of the Lions Club for most of his adult life and an avid supporter of the Lions Club Crippled Children's Camp in Anacoco, Louisiana. He served one tour as a Corpsman in the U.S. Navy after he graduated from Mamou High School. He worked in the Oilfield for most of his adult life. He coached Bantam League Football in Port Sulphur, Louisiana during the 70's and influenced many young boys during those years. He retired from Exxon Mobile and from the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources. He was a lifelong Catholic and a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Ragley, Louisiana. He loved getting together with friends and family for jam sessions and suppers.
He leaves behind his brother, Derald Soileau and wife, Edna of Ville Platte, his children, 1 daughter, Simone Soileau Wolfe and husband, Carl of Grand Lake, Louisiana, 1 son, Marcel Soileau and wife, Jacqueline of Pensacola, Florida, 1 step-son Joel Lail and wife Nancy of Taylorsville, North Carolina, 6 grandchildren Cody Gibson of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Taren Gibson Trahan and husband Chase of Dry Creek, Louisiana, Shelby Wolfe Fountain and husband Chris of Grand Chenier, Louisiana, Jacob Soileau of Lafayette, Louisiana, Austin Soileau of Denver, Colorado, Brian Lail of Statesville, North Carolina, 6 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, 2 sisters-in-law Verona Soileau of Vidrine, Louisiana and Diana Pierrotti of Mamou, Louisiana, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lindsey Joseph Soileau, Sr. and Eula Mae Berzas Soileau, loving wife of 46 years, Dorothy (Dottie) Lail Soileau, brothers Lindsey Joseph Soileau, Jr., Joseph Lee Soileau, and Gerald P. Soileau, father-in-law and mother-in-law Floyd and Bonnie Lail, sisters-in-law Jean Mallett Soileau and Sylvia Dupre Soileau, brother-in-law Carl Lail, granddaughter Joeleen Lail and great-granddaughter Jeaneviere Lail.
Pallbearers are Eric Soileau, Barry Soileau, Ranson Soileau, Brian Soileau, Jody Soileau, Jacob Soileau, Chase Trahan, and Mark Spears.
Visitation will be held at Ardoin's Funeral Home 717 Sixth Street, Mamou, Louisiana Friday, November 29, 2024 from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm with Rosary at 6:00 pm. Graveside* service will be at Cedar Grove Cemetery, in Pine Prairie, Louisiana Saturday, November 30, 2024 at 11:00 am. Services will be conducted by Father Jeffrey Starkovich of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Ragley.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Eunice Lions Club or to the Catholic Church of your choice for Mass.
*There will not be a procession from Ardoin's to the Cemetery Saturday morning. Directions are attached along with Simone and Taren's phone numbers in case you get lost. Casual attire suggested like Jeans and a nice shirt.
