A Christian Service will be held on Friday, February 28, 2025, at 11:00 am at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette for Lou Ella Fontenot, 92, who passed away on February 25, 2025, at her residence in Lafayette, LA.
Visitation will be observed at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette on Friday, February 28, 2025, from 9:00 am until the time of service.
Interment will follow in Fountain Memorial Cemetery in Lafayette.
Deacon Robert Klingman of Holy Cross Catholic Church, of Lafayette, will officiate.
Lou Ella LaFleur Fontenot, was born January 3, 1933, in Mamou, LA and was a long-time resident of Acadiana. She graduated from Mamou High School in Mamou.
Lou was a dedicated homemaker, cook, and baker. One of her specialty dishes and a family favorite was hamburger steak with rice and gravy, and coconut cake. She was also an excellent seamstress and especially liked smocking. Lou enjoyed fun days at the casino and then later games on her tablet. Her granddaughter reminisces that "there was no better gossip than gossiping with MawMaw." Family meant everything to Lou, and she leaves a legacy of love and will be deeply missed.
Lou is survived by her five children, Debra Duncan, of Parks, LA, Keith Fontenot, of Lafayette, LA, Daniel Fontenot, Jr., of Lafayette, LA, Mitch Fontenot, of Abbeville, LA and Becky Fontenot Rogers and her husband, Jimmy, of Prairie Village, KS; her sisters, Belva Soileau, of Lake Charles, LA and Genny Ardoin, of Mamou, LA and her brother, Gerald LaFleur and his wife, Sue, of Eunice, LA; her fourteen grandchildren, Chris Girouard and his wife, Brandy, Danielle Girouard, Lucas Duncan and his significant other, Michelle, Jennifer Duncan, and her fiancée Eric, Megan Fontenot, Lily Fontenot, Nick Fontenot, Crystal Segal and her husband, Jason, Victoria Fontenot and her significant other, Aaron, Dustin Fontenot and his fiancée, Hilary, Ross Fontenot, Jameson Rogers, Jordan Rogers, and Jonah Rogers.; her eleven great-grandchildren, Nicholas Urdaz and his significant other, Chloe, Chace Girouard and his significant other, Angelle, Karter Fontenot, Rylan Louviere, Eryn Claire Girouard, Cole Trosclair, Natalie Curran, Avery Curran, Chien Fontenot, Adalyn Segal, and Sawyer Segal; her four great-great-grandchildren, Blakeleigh Smith, Emberleigh Smith, Brees Richard, Khi Nugent and numerous dear nieces, and nephews, as well as extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Burk Fontenot; her parents, Arteman and Gladys LaFleur; her sister, Dorothy Dupre; her grandson, Aaron Duncan; her great-grandson, Gage Smith and her daughter-in-law, Kathy Fontenot.
Honored to serve as Pallbearers are Chris Girouard, Dustin Fontenot, Ross Fontenot, Jordan Rogers, Chace Girouard, Lucas Duncan, and Mitch Fontenot.
Honorary Bearers will be Keith Fontenot and Danny Fontenot, Jr.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Hospice of Acadiana and CenterWell Home Health of Lafayette for the compassionate care given to Lou and her family.
