Richard Alan Stern, 85, of Wall, NJ, passed away on July 12, 2024. Richard grew up in Hellertown, PA, and graduated from Hellertown High School. He attended Muhlenberg College where he earned a degree in physics. After moving to Wall Township, NJ, he earned his master's degree in engineering at Monmouth College. He was an Army Veteran and worked at Fort Monmouth Research Labs as an electronics engineer for 35 years. After retiring from Fort Monmouth, he spent 13 years as a consultant with the US Army and Navy. He received numerous accolades for his work, including a Lifetime Achievement Award from NASA, a Department of the Army Research and Development Achievement Award, as well as being recognized as the Technology Transfer Representative of the Year.
Dick married Deborah Anne Rutman in 1964. They lived with their family in Wall Township. Dick enjoyed traveling the world, gardening, making repurposed art and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Dick was a member of the Manasquan Presbyterian Church for 56 years and served as a Deacon and Elder. He also spent many years volunteering at the Manasquan Food Pantry.
Dick was predeceased by his parents, Leo and Wanda Stern, as well as his brother, Thomas Stern. He is survived by his beloved wife, Debby, loving children, Wendy Anne Buttling (William) and Brian Alan Stern (Kavita), and grandchildren: Lauren (Caleb), Mark, Jaya and Calvin.
Services will be held on July 24, 2024, at 1 p.m. at the Manasquan Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manasquan Presbyterian Church, 16 Virginia Ave., Manasquan, NJ. To send condolences to the family please visit www.orenderfamilyhome.net.
