Richard T. "Rick" Vargo, 72, of Whiting, passed away suddenly at his residence after returning from Mass on Sunday, June 8, 2025. He was the beloved son of the late Frank and Anne (Wagner) Vargo. He will lovingly be remembered by his brother, Frank (Carol) Vargo and his many cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2025, 9:30am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting with the Rev. James Dvorscak, officiating; interment to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville; visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00p.m.; members of the parish will offer prayers at the funeral home on Wednesday at 4:30p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be placed on-line at

Rick Vargo was born on April 2, 1953 and was a lifelong resident of Whiting. He attended Immaculate Conception School, was a graduate of Bishop Noll Institute, Class of 1971 and went on to earn his Bachelor Degree from the Calumet College of St. Joseph, Hammond. Rick was a teacher for the Diocese of Gary for 15 years, teaching at Bishop Noll Institute, Hammond, Immaculate Conception and Sacred Heart Schools in Whiting. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Church and the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Assoc., BR. 452. For the past 24 years, he was a science instructor and science chair, along with being an internet teacher for a variety of science courses with the American School in Lansing, IL. He enjoyed playing golf with Ed and Sheila and outings with Eve and John. He enjoyed displaying plants and flowers in his beautiful backyard and enjoyed watching old movies, especially Westerns. He was a true and faithful brother and friend, who will be greatly missed by many. (219) 659-4400.
