Dr. Richard E. Weiss passed away peacefully on November 12, 2023. "Dick," as he was known to friends and family, lived a long and exciting life.
He grew up in Los Angeles and loved the Southern California vibe of surfing and sun. He studied medicine at Stanford University to become a neurosurgeon, eventually settling in Asheville, NC, where he was a founding partner of Mountain Neurological Center.
He was also an avid race car driver in the Sports Car Club of America and loved driving exotic sports cars. When he retired from neurosurgery, he moved back to California for several years and then returned to North Carolina to be closer to family.
He served honorably in the Vietnam War as a surgeon in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by Patricia Weiss, his loving wife of more than thirty years, as well as his four children, Kim, Meg, Rick, and C.T and their spouses, as well as three grandchildren, Kathryn, Michael, and Wren. He is also survived by two stepdaughters and their families, including Lisa Nelsen and her husband Derek Nelsen, their three kids, Aiden, Kiara, and Robert, and stepdaughter Vicki Owenby.
We are all sad to see him go, but we know he is in a better place now. We miss you, Dad.

My deepest condolences to the Weiss family. Dr. Weiss along with Dr Schulhof saved my sister's life. She had an aneurysm. I will be forever grateful.
