If one word could describe a person, this is it. Richard White was born on August 6, 1943, to Roy and Margie White, the second of five children. He graduated from Istrouma High School in 1961 and shortly after enlisted in the Marine Corps. Richard served two tours in Vietnam, where he met men, he would never forget. He was part of the 1st Battalion, 9th Marines—known as The Walking Dead.

When he returned home, Richard began his career at BASF, where he worked for 28 years. During that time, he met and married the love of his life, Darlene, with whom he shared 57 wonderful years. Together they raised two children and were blessed with three grandsons. Richard and Darlene traveled extensively and worked tirelessly to create a beautiful home and yard.

An avid golfer, Richard enjoyed long-running games and friendships on the course. Always willing to lend a hand, he joined the Marine Corps League Choctaw Detachment, where he volunteered for years at the VA clinic, Toys for Tots, St. Vincent de Paul, and countless veterans’ burials. With a servant’s heart until his last breath, Richard will be eternally missed by those he leaves behind.

Richard is survived by his wife of 57 years, Darlene Farrell White; son Rhett (Sherry) White; daughter Tara (Joel) Landry; three grandsons Adam White and Layne and Luke Landry; sisters Linda Polozola and Annette Bates; and one brother, Steve. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Margie, and his sister, Pat Semons.

A service will be held Friday January 9, 2026, at St. Alphonsus Church, 14040 Greenwell Springs Rd., from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., with a Mass to follow.

Burial will take place on Wednesday, January 14, at 10:00 a.m. at the Louisiana National Cemetery, 303 W. Mt. Pleasant Zachary Rd., Zachary, LA, with Military Honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are preferred that will be used to honor Richards' life and memory through Marine Corps League-Choctaw Detachment. To give a gift use the IN LIEU OF FLOWERS tab below.
