Ricky Burch Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sunset Funeral Home, Cremation Center & Cemetery on Mar. 16, 2026.
Ricky Jay Burch, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away at the age of 62 on March 14, 2026, in Evansville, Indiana, after courageously battling the aftermath of a stroke. Born on January 8, 1964, in Anchorage, Alaska, he was a 1983 graduate of Castle High School. Ricky grew up to be a man of great character, known for his loving and selfless nature.

Ricky's life was a testament to the value of hard work and dedication. For 40 years, he honed his skills as a tradesman and contractor, taking pride in his craftsmanship in drywall, painting, and other construction services. His professional life was paralleled by a deep commitment to ABATE of Indiana, where he served as a Region 8 Director, a motorcycle safety instructor, and the Evansville training site coordinator. Ricky's passion for motorcycling was infectious, and he was driven to share his love for the open road by teaching others to ride safely and responsibly.

Known affectionately as "Mohican" by his biker brothers and sisters, Ricky's love for motorcycles was only surpassed by his love for his family. He was married to his beloved wife, Cathy Shaw Burch, for 34 years, and together they raised a beautiful family. Ricky was a guiding light to his daughters, Amber (Stephan) Mullen, Brittany, Dorothy, and Hanna Burch, and Son Nick (Lauren) Burch. He cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren, John, Grace, Parker, Luna Burch, Myrah Courtney, Lila, and Bo Mullen, who lovingly called him "Old Timer."

Ricky's legacy is carried on by his brother, Mike (Dawn) and brothers-in-law, Keith (Karen) and Mike Shaw. His life was enriched by the presence of many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who he held dear. He was preceded in passing by his parents, Gene and Gaynell Burch, his mother-in-law, Donna Shaw, and his brother, Steve Burch.

Ricky's life was a reflection of the things he valued most: family, friendship, and the joy of living each day to the fullest. His selfless love and unwavering support for those around him left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him. Ricky Jay Burch will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have felt the warmth of his presence.

There will be a celebration of Ricky's life on April 4 from 1-5pm at the VFW Charles Denby post 2953 at 1800 Pollack Avenue in Evansville Indiana.
