I, Ricky McGary, passed away on my birthday, July 10. My departure was just as I expected it to be, surrounded by my loved ones.

I was born to Dean and Geraldine McGary in 1955. I grew up in Hodgdon. I learned the value of hard work from the two men I looked up to the most, my dad and my grandfather. Starting work at an early age for my mentor and Grandfather Albion Larson. I learned a lot and carried that through life with me. I worked a variety of jobs over the years. Carpentry is where I found that I excelled and enjoyed. I made the most unforgettable friendships but found being a loving and devoted husband to my wife and soulmate of 54 years is what I loved the most.

We found each other in 1971 and decided 4 years later to make it forever. Charlene, I love you more than anything. You taught me forgiveness, compassion and how to be selfless. Always being my biggest supporter. Never a religious man, my faith depended after my diagnosis. With the encouragement of Matthew Brown and Pastor Steve Straubel, I was baptized on Easter of this year.

My faith and the support of my loving family and friends is what got me through the days I didn't think I could. My daughter rallied right along by my side since the beginning of this nasty disease. Staying in Portland with me, not taking no for an answer and pushing me to fight and never give up. I want to thank everyone that has been a part of this journey with me. The visits, phone calls, cards and prayers were fuel for my battle.

I am survived by my loving wife Charlene, my children Jennifer McGary (Nicholas Quint) and Reggie McGary of Houlton. Grandsons Jordan Brown (Bailey Plummer) of Bangor and Coltin Quint of Houlton. My siblings Diane Kervin of North Carolina, Laurie and Andy Leighton of Houlton, Bob McGary (Addie Wakefield) of Smyrna Mills, and Christine McGary of Hodgdon. Also leaving behind dear friends Tara Lynds & Barry Dow, and Priscilla and Raymond Dow as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

I was predeceased by my parents, my baby sister Debbie and brother-in-law Tim Kervin. Respecting my wishes there will be no services. My family will plan to celebrate my life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Bridge to Hope, Aroostook House of Comfort or to the Houlton Humane Society.
