Ricky Joe Sheffield, a dedicated pipeline specialist in the oil & gas industry, passed away on January 8, 2024, in his hometown of Sweeny, TX. He was born on October 10, 1948, in Sweeny, TX, to Joseph and Jean Sheffield.
Ricky Joe served his country proudly during the Vietnam War as a member of the United States Air Force. Throughout his military service, he demonstrated unwavering dedication and commitment and was honored with an Honorable discharge and the rank of Staff Sergeant.
After his military service, Ricky Joe pursued a successful career as a pipeline specialist in the oil & gas industry. With his expertise and vast experience, he contributed significantly to the growth and development of this sector. His commitment to excellence earned him respect from colleagues and clients alike.
Aside from his professional accomplishments, Ricky Joe held education close to his heart. He was a Sweeny Bulldog through and through, graduating from Sweeny High School class of 1967.
In retirement, Ricky Joe indulged in two of his favorite pastimes. One could always find him enjoying music to its fullest extent or on the golf course perfecting his swing. Music brought him joy and solace, while golf allowed him to relax and unwind.
But above all else, Ricky Joe treasured time spent with his beloved family. His proudest accomplishments were centered around them - especially his children and grandchildren. He leaves behind a legacy filled with cherished memories that will forever be held dear by those whose lives he touched.
Ricky Joe Sheffield is survived by his son Jared Sheffield of Sweeny; daughter Rikki Merchant and her husband Matthew of West Columbia; grandchildren Kyleigh Sheffield, Travis Sheffield, Madilyn Sheffield, and Hadlee Merchant; sister Kathy Smedley; brother Joey Sheffield and his wife Tina of Canyon Lake, TX; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 36 years Josephine 'Jody' Sheffield, his parents Joseph and Jean Sheffield, brother-in-law Byron Smedley, great-niece Mallory King, and great-nephew Rory Sheffield.
The Visitation for Ricky Joe Sheffield will be held on Thursday January 11, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the C.T. Baker & Sons Funeral Home 634 West Columbia Dr. West Columbia, TX 77486
A Funeral Service will take place on Friday January 12, 2024, at the First Baptist Church Sweeny in Sweeny, TX. The service will commence at 11:00 AM. Following the Funeral Service, Ricky Joe will be laid to rest at Sweeny Cemetery in Sweeny, TX. The Interment ceremony is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
