Ricky Lee Vickers, Sr. was born on June 29, 1964, in Salisbury, Maryland, the son of Joyce Faye (Taylor) Vickers and Charles Rosevelt Vickers, Sr. (who passed away when Ricky was seven years old). His stepfather, Russell Alex Mayes raised him.
On April 15, 2025, Ricky passed away at his home he shared with his twin sister, Vicky Faye (Vickers) Niblett.
Ricky attended Buckingham Elementary in Berlin, Maryland, Berlin Middle School, and North Wilkes Central High School in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina. He graduated from James H. Groves Adult Education in Georgetown, Delaware.
In the early 90s, Ricky worked for Nanticoke Homes and Nanticoke Concrete in Greenwood, Delaware. Later, he and his father-in-law started "P & R Trucking" in Bridgeville, Delaware. Ricky also worked for Primestar Satellite in Seaford, Delaware, Eckert Bros. Tools, Hardware & Surplus in Laurel, Delaware, Camping Center Georgetown, Delaware, and was one of the first Security Officers for the Harrington Casino when they first opened. The last job he held and the one that was most important to him was working for the Delaware State Police. Ricky oversaw the physical building and grounds maintenance, Community Service Workers, upkeep for the barracks at the Delaware State Fair, and a host of other responsibilities at Troop #4 in Georgetown, Delaware. He later transferred to Troop #5 in Bridgeville, where he had similar responsibilities.
Ricky was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan since elementary school. He never gave up on them. He also loved NASCAR. For many years, his favorite driver was Bill Elliott, until he retired. In the early 90s, Ricky loved taking his home-made school bus camper to the Dover Nascar Races and parking it in the infield. This was something he shared with his whole family (wife, parents, brothers, and sister). Along with family camping trips, especially on Halloween. He was also a huge fan of the up-and-coming WNBA basketball player for the Indiana Fever, Caitlin Clark. He also loved music. His two favorite artists were Reba and Celine Dion, but he had a host of other musical genres he enjoyed.
Back in the 90s, Ricky enjoyed bowling and was on several different teams.
Ricky was preceded in death by his grandmother, Doris Adams; brothers, Thomas Ernest Philips, Harold William Vickers, and Jeffery Michael Vickers; grandson, Dutton Thorn Lowe; mother, Joyce Faye (Taylor) Vickers; father, Charles Rosevelt Vickers, Sr.; and stepfather, Russell Alex Mayes.
Ricky is survived by his children, Ricky Lee Vickers, Jr. (Samantha), and Riley Taylor Lowe (Thorn), both of Bridgeville DE; grandchildren, Waylon Micheal Vickers, and Joslyn Elise Gates; siblings, twin sister, Vicky Faye (Vickers) Niblett, Charels Rosevelt Vickers, Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved so very much and had so many special memories with.
