St. Martinville - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church, for Ricky L. Wedlake, 59, who passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2023.
A visitation will take place at the funeral home in St. Martinville on Tuesday from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM and will continue on Wednesday from 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM.
A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM on Tuesday.
Rev. Bill Melancon will officiate at the Funeral Mass. The reader will be Jace Quebedeaux.
Interment will follow at St. Michael Mausoleum.
Ricky led a life defined by hard work and versatility. He excelled in his career as a mechanic in the oilfield, where he showcased his exceptional craftsmanship day in and day out. Ricky's dedication to his craft was evident to everyone who had the pleasure of working alongside him. He approached every task with diligence, always ensuring that the job was done thoroughly and proficiently. Ricky's expertise as a "Jack-of-all-trades" made him invaluable to those around him.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Ricky will be remembered for his unwavering character and genuine kindness. Ricky's all-around good nature left an indelible impression on the hearts of those who crossed paths with him.
An ardent sports enthusiast, Ricky had an undying passion for Duke Basketball. In his younger days, Ricky also actively participated in sports himself; he played both Hockey and Basketball with enthusiasm and skill. He found joy in serving as the coach for his children in many sports. He also took a great interest in spending time with his family pets.
When he wasn't cheering for his favorite team or partaking in competitive sports, Ricky found solace in recreational activities such as fishing and carpentry. Additionally, Ricky had a penchant for carpentry; he relished every opportunity to showcase his craftsmanship through woodworking projects.
One would often find Ricky meticulously tending to his truck or cutting grass in his spare time. His dedication to maintaining and caring for his belongings reflected his meticulous nature. Ricky had an eye for detail and took immense pride in keeping his possessions in immaculate condition.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Sherrie Maraist Wedlake; children, Nigel (Alainie) Wedlake and Katherine (Ryan) Longman; siblings Kevin (Cyndi) Wedlake and Judy (Bobby) Quebedeaux; and his first grandchild who is due in May.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Guy Ann and Roy Istre; biological mother, Grace Yvonne Matte; father and mother-in-law, Paul and Melba Maraist; nephew, Rhian Quebedeaux.
Pallbearers will be Nigel Wedlake, Ryan Longman, Bobby Quebedeaux, Jace Quebedeaux, Byron Landry, and Lawrence Maraist.
Honorary pallbearer will be Bobby Joe Quebedeaux.
