Rita Erwin, a cherished member of her family and community, was born on September 28, 1934, in Savannah, Tennessee. She passed away peacefully on December 26, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, hard work, and vibrant friendships.
Rita’s career in the beauty industry began after she attended and graduated from Helena Dye Beauty College in Nashville, where she earned a degree in Cosmology, inspired by her sister's footsteps. Starting her journey in Portland, Tennessee, she opened her own salon, where her unique personality and steadfast work ethic flourished. Rita’s dedication to her craft allowed her to thrive, leading her to open another salon in White House, closer to her home.
After many successful years running her salon, she transitioned into a new chapter, working alongside her husband at their family business, B.F. Myers Furniture Store. Her drive and morale enabled her to prosper in both professions, making her a beloved figure in the lives of her customers and colleagues.
Rita was known for her hardworking nature and her ability to cultivate lasting friendships through her work, which extended into her time spent in White House, Goodlettsville, and Naples, Florida. She was the ultimate hostess, ensuring that everyone in her presence felt valued and entertained. After retiring B.F. Myers, she and her husband would winter in Naples, FL and took up the game of golf and spent many years enjoying the companionship of golf.
Above all, Rita was a devoted mother, who took pride in caring for her family’s varied needs, both big and small. She instilled values of organization and attention to detail, teaching that each day is begun by making the bed, and keeping your room and thoughts organized.
Rita was a believer in our Lord and Savior and a faithful member of Connell United Methodist Church.
Rita was lovingly referred to as "Grandmother" by her grandchildren, who include Julianne (Spencer) Goodwin and Bethany (Luke) Mitchell. Her great-grandchildren, Graham and Oliver Goodwin, called her “GiGi,” a reflection of the special bond she shared with them.
Rita is survived by her son, Bob (Amy) Erwin, as well as a host of many other family members who will deeply miss her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Joe Erwin, and several siblings, including Kay Rutherford, Dick Hardin, Austin Hardin, Edgar Hardin, Gerneil Cary, Sarah Covington, and Ann Phillips; and her parents, Edgar and Juanita Hardin.
Rita Erwin will be remembered for her indelible spirit, her unwavering dedication to her family and community, and the countless lives she touched through her warmth, laughter, and love. Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those she cherished and who cherished her.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 2nd from 4-7pm at Cole and Garrett Funeral Home in Goodlettsville. Another visitation will be held from 10-11am on Saturday, January 3rd at Connell United Methodist Church with the service beginning at 11am at the church.
