Rita V. Heindl, 92, Madison, formerly of Marathon, passed away on Monday, December 22, 2025 at Agrace Hospice Care in Madison.
She was born March 28, 1933 in Marathon, daughter of the late John and Eleanor (Yonker) Vogedes. On June 8, 1953, she married her high school sweetheart, Gerald Heindl at St. Marathon Catholic Church in Marathon. He preceded her in death on July 27, 2025.
Rita began her working career at Employers Mutual Casualty Company as a correspondent for workman’s comp and later worked for Marathon Cheese Corp. as a line supervisor. Among her favorite pastimes, she enjoyed reading, baking, cooking, traveling and trivia.
Survivors include her children, Jeffrey (Kim) Heindl of Egg Harbor, Mark (John Lynch) Heindl of Madison, Mike (Jill) Heindl of Shorewood, Kathy (Richard) Marx of Tampa, Florida, and Mary (Randy) Mullen of New Braunfels Texas; grandchildren, Brien (Tasha) Heindl, Leslie (Eric) Hansen, Amy Mullen, Max (Megan) Mullen, Marcus (Amanda) Mullen, Madison Heindl, Nicholas (Casey) Marx, Shanna (Jamie) Larochelle, and Cole (Taylor) Radloff; great grandchildren, Olivia, Callon, Nathan, Jordan, Dillon, Viviann, Rhett and Ellodie; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, Gerald, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Lester, Hugo, John and Alfred Vogedes; and two sisters, Lucille Freiburger and Doris Fergot.
A funeral Mass for Gerald and Rita will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. Rev. Msgr. Joseph Diermeier will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass at the church.
