Rita Hoyt Obituary

Rita Hoyt, of Mahopac, NY, a cherished matriarch and steady source of love, passed away on November 4, 2025, at the age of 90 while spending the autumn in Margate, Florida. Born on November 2, 1935, in New York, NY, Rita's life was a testament to devotion-devotion to family, to heritage, and to the values that shaped her.
The beloved daughter of the late James and Margaret (Flannery) Kiely, Rita was born in Manhattan and raised in the Bronx. She attended Grace Dodge High School, where she formed the foundation of the warm, community-oriented spirit that would define her throughout her life. Though her formal schooling concluded there, Rita never stopped learning-she absorbed life through people, stories, and experiences.
On October 4, 1958, in the Bronx, Rita married her beloved husband, the late Robert Hoyt. Together they built a home grounded in love, care, and faith. As a devoted homemaker, Rita poured her heart into raising her family. She was the loving mother of Patricia Abbruscato (married to Pat), Nancy Gilligan (married to John), Robert Hoyt (life partner Sarah), and Eileen Alamprese (married to Keith). She embraced motherhood with joy, patience, and unwavering presence.
Rita took tremendous pride in her grandchildren-Kayla Marie, Robert, Kiely, Katie, Ryan, and Emma-each of whom brought a unique light into her world. To them, she was not only a grandmother but a constant, gentle source of love and encouragement. They were, without question, the sunshine of her life.
Rita is also survived by her sister Margaret McCann, and her loving in-laws Terry McCann, Kay Kiely, and Gracie Kiely. She was predeceased by her sisters Pauline Moran and Josephine Gage, and by her brothers Nicholas and James Kiely. Family was Rita's deepest joy, and she nurtured her relationships with sincerity and grace.
Proud of her Irish heritage, Rita was an active member of the Irish American Club, where she found friendship, laughter, and connection. The traditions and stories of Ireland remained close to her heart, and she passed them along with pride and affection.
Rita's life embodied the words of Mother Teresa: "What can you do to promote world peace? Go home and love your family." Rita's home was her world, and in loving her family, she created peace, warmth, and stability that will continue to echo forward.
We say goodbye to Rita with gratitude for the love she gave so freely. Her legacy is one of kindness, family, and abiding faith. Her memory will remain a guiding light to all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 10, 2025 at Cargain Funeral Home, 418 Route 6 (GPS US-6), Mahopac, NY.
