Rita P. Martin

A Liturgy of the Word will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025, at 12:00 pm at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette, LA for Rita P. Martin, 92, who passed away on Monday, October 20, 2025, at the home of her daughter in Bayou Chicot, LA.

Visitation will be observed at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home on Friday, October 24, 2025, from 9:00 am until the time of service.

A Rosary will be recited by John Michael Richard at 11:30 am on Friday, October 24, 2025.

Readers for the service will be John Michael Richard and Eileen Martin.

Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lafayette, LA.

Father Howard Blessing, of Lafayette, LA, will officiate.

Rita Potier Martin was born on October 29, 1932, in Carencro, LA, and was a lifelong resident of Acadiana. She worked as a bookkeeper in the travel industry until her retirement. During her employment, Rita enjoyed going on cruises and visiting Europe. She was an avid collector of rosaries and clowns. Rita was strong in her faith and attended St. Edmond Roman Catholic Church and St. Jules Catholic Church. Family meant everything to Rita and she will be deeply missed.

Rita is survived by her daughter, Dianne Martin Smith and her husband, Greg, of Bayou Chicot, LA and her son, John Eric Martin and his wife, Eileen Martin, of Lafayette, LA; her two grandsons, Caine Griffith and his wife, Rhonda Griffith, of Lafayette, LA and Daniel Martin, of Lafayette, LA; her two granddaughters, Shawn Codi Griffith, of Pinehurst, TX and Holly Martin, of Lafayette, LA; her step-grandson, Dreux Smith, of Green River, WY and her eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, John Allen Martin; her infant daughter, Mary Beth; her parents, Ernest and Monique Potier; her siblings, Bradley Pothier and Lucy Guidroz; her grandson, Clinton Griffith and her step-grandson, Quincy Smith.

Honored to serve as Pallbearers are Caine Griffith, Bradley Pothier, Ernest Pothier, Brian Pothier, Cooper Guidroz and Michael Guidroz.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Troy Pothier, Jimmy Guidroz and Carl Guidroz.

The family wishes to express sincere thanks to the staff of Allegiance Hospice & Palliative Care, in Marksville, LA and special thanks to Caregivers, Briana, Kacee and Ms. Frieda; most importantly, thanks to Rita's companion and sitter, Syrieta.
