SEYMOUR, CT: Rita Ann Scermino, age 73 of Seymour, entered peacefully into rest on January 11, 2025, with her devoted family by her side. Rita was born January 4, 1952, in Derby, daughter of the late Lawrence J. Dubey, Sr. and Lena (Visselli) Dubey. Rita was a remarkable woman whose strength, love, and laughter touched the lives of everyone around her, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, kindness, and joy.
Rita leaves her loving family including her companion of 37 years, Robert Magda, and her daughters: Patti Prodan and her husband Christopher of Shelton, and Carla Acucena and her companion Neal Benson of Dunstable, MA. She also leaves her siblings: Linda Potucek of Port St. John, FL, Gloria Dubey of North Haven, CT, Ann Marie Renaldi and her husband Frank of Seymour, CT, Lawrence J. Dubey, Jr. of AZ, and Robert Dubey of Jupiter, FL. She is survived by her grandchildren who brought endless joy: Samantha Prodan, Caleb, Brody, Liam, and Silas Acucena. She also had many beloved nieces and nephews.
Rita worked as a medical assistant at Griffin Faculty Physicians for over 35 years, where her compassion and dedication to her patients were unmatched. Her work wasn't just a job to her-it was her passion.
Outside of her profession, Rita lived life with unbridled enthusiasm. She loved playing cards, visiting the casino, and scratching her favorite lottery tickets. She and Bob also enjoyed traveling to Florida to spend time with family and friends, creating countless cherished memories. Her love of fun was infectious; she cherished good wine, hearty laughter, and the thrill of a well-played joke. She brought light and happiness wherever she went, and her sense of humor was a gift to all who knew her.
Her spirit of resilience, generosity, and joy will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. She taught us all the true meaning of strength, love, and living life to the fullest.
A private ceremony will be held to honor Rita's life. Interment will be at Mountain Meadows Cemetery. The Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church Street, Seymour is entrusted with her arrangements. Please share a memory at www.hullfh.com

I knew Rita as Dr. Mathias' sidekick for many years. At every appointment we shared a laugh. She was always willing to help solve a problem whenever I called. Rita, you will be sorely missed by me and countless others.

We met Rita through Griffin Faculty Health Physicians in Shelton many years ago. When I visited the office with my mom, she was kind, compassionate and always helpful. My mom was not at all comfortable with those semi-annual visits to the doctor's office, but Rita had that special way about her that always put my mom at ease. She would say things like, "look at you - you look great - you're doing great!!!" I would reach out to Rita whenever there was a question or problem that needed answering - she would check with the doctor and would get back very quickly with a response. I knew she had taken good care of her mom and dad before they passed so I felt a connection with her and knew that my mom was in good hands when Rita was on the case. Around holiday time, Rita often spoke with us about her family, her plans with them and was excited to share meal menus especially those involving lots of good Italian food.

We extend our deepest condolences to the entire family. Always keep your many very fond memories of Rita close to your heart. She was special. Rest in peace dear Rita.

Oh Rita~you had been on my mind since my mom told me you were out sick . I must admit I even called trying to see if you were back. My visits will never be the same. You genuinely cared how me and my family were doing and always remembered ever bit of my personal
Life, after all you had been part of my life for the last 30 years. ~If I only knew at my last appointment it was the last time I would ever see you, I would have thanked you and gave you a big hug. I will miss you so much . Rest easy Rita I hope your realized just how many lives you touched.

I am so sorry to hear this sad news! I met Rita through Gloria she was very funny and kind. But as I got older I would see her at the Drs office. We always would catch up on life. She lived life to the fullest, I hope all the cherished memories you have will make you smile.
