Rita M. (Breen) (Sarasin) Tkaczyk, 102, of Baldwinville, died peacefully Sunday, February 4, 2024, in Sterling Village, after a period of declining health.
Born in Cape Jack, Nova Scotia, Canada, on May 8, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Stephen C. and Victoria (Lavangie) Breen.
Rita was a parishioner of St. Vincent de Paul Church of Baldwinville. She enjoyed traveling, knitting, photography, visiting Indian Ranch, and listening to country music. Rita loved to write letters to family and friends—her family would joke with her that she would keep the post office open. Her greatest joy was her family and friends, treasuring their time together.
Rita is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, a god child Rita Kelley, of Nova Scotia, Canada, her sister-in-law, Nancy Vincent of Beverly, and stepchildren.
She was predeceased by her husbands, Raymond Sarasin and Chester Tkaczyk; her longtime companion, Ralph Blackmer; and her siblings, Aloysius, Joseph Anthony, Mary Mabel, Peter Vincent, Margaret Louise, Berthille Elizabeth, Mary Evedine, Francis Henry, and Joseph Leonard.
Sincere thanks to Sterling Village and Notre Dame Hospice for the passionate and loving care they provided and to her niece and guardian Yvonne Breen, who lovingly cared and advocated for her aunt during her declining years.
