Robert Berwick, a longtime resident of Greenville, RI, passed away on July 22 at the age of 94. He was very happily married for 70 years to the late Marion R. Berwick. Born in Pawtucket, Robert was the son of the late William and Catherine Berwick. He was the brother of the late Douglas, Richard and Kenneth Berwick.
He grew up on Windsor Road in Pawtucket with his parents and three brothers, and graduated from Pawtucket East (now Tolman) High School. After graduating, he worked in retail stores, including Gladding's, which is where he met his wife, Marion. During the Korean War, Robert served in the U.S. Army as a high-speed radio operator. While he was training at Camp Gordon in Georgia, he and Marion were married.
Robert was an accountant, and held many different positions, most notably at Stanley-Bostitch. His employment provided travel opportunities that he and Marion greatly enjoyed. Upon his retirement, they continued to travel to Europe, as well as Australia and locations in the United States.
Robert golfed quite a bit, both with friends and with the Bostitch employees' golf league. He attended many Boston and Pawtucket Red Sox games with his family. He and Marion enjoyed relaxing at home, especially the peace and quiet of their porch. Robert spent a lot of time keeping his yard neat. He also was an avid crossword puzzle solver, an activity he started when he was growing up. Robert was a regular watcher of "Jeopardy," and could answer most questions, probably because he read quite a bit, mostly history.
Robert leaves a son, Robert Berwick, and his wife, Kim of Smithfield. He also leaves his grandson, Casey R. Berwick, and several nieces.
His funeral will be held at Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville, Friday, July 26th at noon. Burial will be in RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visitation is Friday from 11:00 am - noon.
