Robert (Bob) B. Marcy

Beloved patriarch, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Robert B. “Bob” Marcy, 87, of Conneaut, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at UH Cleveland. He was born April 14, 1937 in Conneaut, the son of Robert C. and Geraldine (Atwater) Marcy.

He was a 1955 graduate of Conneaut High School and served with the Army National Guard from 1960-1965. While serving, he attended Grove City College in Grove City, PA, and the Cincinnati College of Embalming. He received his Embalmer’s and Funeral Director’s licenses in 1961. In 1963 he attended the National Foundation of Funeral Service’s School of Management in Evanston, IL.

Bob was the fourth-generation funeral director of the Marcy Funeral Home which was established in 1868. He proudly served Conneaut most of his life, starting when he was 6 years old. The family business began in 1868 with the ambulance and monument shop. Bob began going on ambulance calls at the age of 14 after school and on weekends.

 He was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ where he served as moderator, church choir member, and was currently on the board of deacons. He was a member of the former Conneaut Jaycees of which he was chairman of the annual Christmas parade for a number of years and was the recipient of its Distinguished Service Award. He was a member and former director of the Conneaut Railroad Historical Society, member of the Evergreen Lodge #222 F & AM, and Conneaut Elks #256. Bob was a long time member of the Conneaut Rotary Club of which he had served as president and a member of the board of directors. He was honored with the Paul Harris award. He helped initiate the original chemical abuse and crisis intervention programs for the schools. He served as chair of a number of MacDowell and Rotary-sponsored musical productions. He organized parades for winning CLYO teams when they arrived home. While a member of the board of directors of the Conneaut Area Chamber of Commerce, he was instrumental in the original Downtown Revitalization Program. He was a former director of the Ashtabula County T.B. & Health Board, the Brown Memorial Hospital Board, the United Way Board, and just recently stepped down as president of the Conneaut Health Department Board.

Bob was one of the original organizers and vice president of the former “HomeTown News.” He was instrumental in initiating the study of Conneaut Creek for its Scenic River designation by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and was a charter member of the Friends of the Conneaut Creek. Bob’s love of Conneaut led him to create the “Project Pride” program to recognize businesses and private citizens who made special effort to make improvements around the community. Bob originated the Christmas Card Project at Lakeshore Park in 2004.

Bob was honored to be named Conneaut Citizen of the Year in 2001. He was proud of his community and would always say “Proud to call Conneaut home.” He was always looking for ways to help make Conneaut a better place to live. Bob enjoyed being with his family, who were his life. He enjoyed snow birding at the family cottage in Englewood, FL, which his family built in the 1920’s. Fishing, boating, and enjoying the sunsets on Lemon Bay with family meant the world to him.

Bob had a passion for old limousines, hearses, and mustangs. He and Sue enjoyed going to car shows.

 Bob’s greatest pride and joy was his family, his wife of thirty seven years, Sue (Hubbard) Marcy; son Kevin (Gina) Marcy of Acworth, GA; daughters Heather (David) Ryan of Cartersville, GA; Allie (James) Mayer of Perry; Lisa Young of Lake Mary, FL; Sarah (Keith) Sherman, and Kori (Chad) Campbell, both of Conneaut; grandchildren; Wade (Amanda) Marcy of Acworth, GA, Morgan (Kendall) Frazier of Dallas, GA, Reed (Fabiola) Marcy of Dallas, GA, Campbell (Kylie) Ryan of Dallas, GA; Devyn Zappitelli, Ashlyn Sherman, Kylee Sherman, Collin Campbell, all of Conneaut; Reese and Nora Mayer of Perry; great grandchildren, Mason and Charlotte Marcy of Acworth, GA, Jaxon and Marina Marcy of Dallas GA, Emerson Frazier of Dallas, GA: and baby Enzo Marcy and baby Berkley Frazier on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents. 

Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 22, 2025, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 211 Buffalo St., Conneaut, with burial following in Glenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 1:00-3:00PM and 5:00-8:00PM, Friday, March 21, 2025, at the Marcy Funeral Home, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Congregational United Church of Christ. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and the church.
