Robert Karl Bond, M.D. 1952-2025 Internist, Diagnostician
Dr. Robert Bond established his practice, the Blue Ridge Mountain Internal Medicine, P. C. in llijay, GA in 1982. He is a renowned internist and gifted diagnostician, the latter, arguably, the best in GA. "He could have made it anywhere in the world but he chose to practice here in this underserved area because he wanted to help the people of Ellijay."
Air Force veteran, (Capt.) Dr. Bond, was an honors class junior from North Cobb HS. He was accelerated as a freshman physics major in GA Institute of Technology (GT) in his senior year but shifted his major to Biology to become a physician. He graduated from the Medical College of GA in Augusta. He completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at St. Mary's Academy Hospital, St. Louis, MO. From thence he served at Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, GA.
Rather than furthering his military career, even though he saw himself a warrior as a fighter pilot, he heeded instead the "call to heal". He believed God had other plans for him. That the Lord wanted him to heal rather than harm.
Blue Ridge Mountain Internal Medicine, P. C. was first established in Ellijay at the corner of River & N Main Streets in downtown Ellijay. As the practice expanded it was moved to 17 Barclay St. where it remained until Dr. Bond retired at the end of December 2020.
Dr. Robert Bond, is very kind, really smart & intelligent and amazingly good-hearted country doctor with the gift to heal and a warrior-like approach to diagnosis and treatment. After all, fighting illnesses and diseases is the battle. Just as he did fighting the COVID pandemic. One battle which he believed he had successfully won. His clinic stayed open when most closed. He saw all patients who wanted to be seen in person, even went on house calls and not one of these patients was lost. He's a pioneer in the early days of his practice and a maverick till the end.
Dr. Bond resumed seeing patients with the Raisig Wellness Center in April 2024 because he wanted to continue to share this gift to heal and help patients for as long as he could. Which he did. He was called to fill in for someone in the clinic the day before the Lord called him. This warrior for Christ did not stop until he dropped.
Yes, Dr. Bond considered his work as his mission. God is the healer. He is only an instrument. So to God be all the glory! His only wish and greatest hope is to have this consolation, that, when his time is come he will hear the Lord say: "Well done my good and faithful servant "
Family Man Dr.Robert Bond is survived by his wife Cory (Gonzaga-Bond), herself a trained Pediatrician from the Philippines, who managed the practice after having done work with Medical Refugee Programs in Asia, Eastern Europe and Africa prior to joining the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, GA. Their son Chandler, 23 is a senior nursing student at Belmont Abbey College in Charlotte, NC.
His daughters, Amanda Bond lives in Gainesville, (GA) and Melissa Bond Orme and son in law Jared are based in (Panama City Beach) FL with their children Alden, Magdalena, (twins) Hannah & Gideon Judah & Elias.
His loving only sibling Patti lives in Canton, GA along with her daughters Claudia & LeeAnn & grandsons Carter & Brennan.
As a husband, he was an incurable romantic, very thoughtful, incredibly protective, very loyal most loving, most-loved, and cherished.
For his children he's been Incomparably supportive, very generous, wise, and very, very caring. Simply the best dad, ever. He is mostly the fun grandpa who adored his grandchildren. But occasionally he becomes this outrageously "silly" but amazing "opa".
The extended family, of course, as everyone knows include, the GT Yellow Jackets and the Bayern Munich Soccer Team. These teams however plays second or third ( for a while) to any team his son Chandler played soccer in. But his passions do not end there. It also included fishing and especially hunting.
For his family, Dr. Robert Bond's most remarkable and unforgettable legacy is this: Honor, loyalty, duty. Love is unconditional, but approval is not.
Faithful Navigator Dr. Bond, is one to say, the Lord God has been merciful to him, "a sinner." He was a committed Christian, Roman Catholic, and a 4th-degree officer/member of the Knights of Columbus. His legacy, he hoped, was that he'd be remembered as "a man of the Word" who spread & lived God's word. Or at least, he tried. Because according to him, God did not say, "if you have time, neither, did He say, if you like, nor, if you have nothing better to do" - BUT God commanded us, to "Go out into the world and spread the good news."
Dr. Robert Bond joined his Maker Friday, March 28, 2025.
