Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sullivan Funeral Home - Hanson on Oct. 22, 2024.
Robert "Bob" Burns, 70, of Hanson, passed away peacefully with the love of his life, Carol and his brother, Andrew, by his side. While the illness he fought so valiantly, took him away from us far too soon, he will be forever present in our lives through the many memories he gave us.
Bob grew up in Brockton and as one of the older children in the family, was always full of stories of growing up in the city with his brothers and sisters.
Bob had over a 44 year career with National Grid, which he retired from in 2017. In his retirement, he made the most of his time by spending it with his weekly golf crew, going to the movies and going on long awaited vacations. Mostly, he loved his sunset and weekend cruises around the lake, enjoying a cigar and martini with Carol.
One of his greatest joys after retirement was the early morning "babysitting job" for his little Ellie, whom he became a bonus grandfather to her.
When he found himself with some free time, he was often found getting into some crazy adventure in an effort to help his friend Brian.
You could find him most days leaning on the fence talking with his friends, Bryan and Elisha, with a pocket full of pops for Ellie.
He was a quiet man, but was the first to lend an ear, give advice or help out a friend. His quiet presence in his friends and family lives will be missed. He loved and respected Carol and the life they have created. His absence will be profoundly felt by Carol, as he was truly her best friend and soulmate.
Bob is survived by his devoted wife, Carol (Maheux) Burns. He was the beloved son of Irene (Brown) Topoulos of Wareham and the late Alan R. Burns and the late Constantine (Dino) Topoulos. Dear brother of Gina Dwyer and her husband Steve, Maria Mann and her husband Eric, Andrew Topoulos and his wife Patricia (Tricia), Alana Burke and her husband Kevin and Daniel Burns and his wife Jane. Brother-in-law of Claire and Joseph Veno, Susan McLaughlin, Joan and Al Adduci, Joseph and Zenarda Maheux and David and Maggie Maheux. Also survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 24th from 4pm to 6pm at Sullivan Funeral Home, 2 Maquan St. (Corner Route 14 & 58), Hanson. Interment will be private.
