Robert J. Callanan

COHOES Robert "Bink" J. Callanan, 93, entered into eternal life Friday, November 29, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born and educated in Mechanicville, he was the son of the late Harold and Katherine Fitzpatrick Callanan. He was a veteran of the US Navy having served during the Korean War. After being discharged, he worked for many years with the Canteen Corp. until retiring in 1992. He then went on to work with the Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Brendese Funeral Home, retiring only a few years ago.
A longtime communicant of St. Michael's Church, Bob was very active in his parish. He worked bingo, was on the bazaar committee and belonged to the church choir. He also was known as everyone's favorite Santa Claus and was the life of many a holiday party. He was an animal lover as well and especially loved his Schnauzer, Duchess.
Bob was the loving husband of 69 years of Genevieve Zandri Callanan; the beloved father of Cindy Surprenant (Wilfred) of Cohoes and the late Robert J. Callanan II; the proud grandfather of Brian Surprenant (Andrea) and Megan Sutherland (Derek); the great grandfather of Brian Jr., Victoria, Braden, Maria, Killian and Kaiden; the brother of Raymond Callanan (late Connie), David Callanan (Judy) and the late John E. Callanan (Mary), Walter Callanan (Veronica), William, and Donald Callanan. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:45 a.m. from the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 105 Vliet Blvd., Cohoes and at 11:30 a.m. in St. Michael's Church, Cohoes. Interment will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Waterford.
Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home Monday from 4-7 p.m.
