Robert Vernon Cash, 85, of Sparta died November 13, 2025, in Sparta, Illinois.
Robert, known as Bob, was born June 13, 1940, in Paris, Illinois, to Eugene and Alice
(Brown) Cash.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 18 at Stewart and Carroll
Funeral Home in Paris. A funeral service will follow and burial will take place at Edgar
County Cemetery.

In 1957, Bob signed up for the Army. He took basic training at Fort Leonard Wood,
Missouri. He was sent to Belfore, Virginia and assigned, for two years, to engineering
school for heavy equipment. After graduating, he was sent to New York to board a ship
overseas.
Bob was stationed in Toul, France. He visited several countries while stationed in France.
On the day he received orders to be sent home, the sergeant assigned him two prisoners
to be in his care on the ship as they traveled home. Once the ship made it to New York, the
authorities were there to take the two prisoners.
From New York, Bob was flown to Fort Sheridan, Illinois. He was discharged in 1960 at
Fort Sheridan with an honorable plaque and SP4 ranking.
After arriving home, Bob went to work at the Illinois Cereal Mill in Paris.
In January 1961, he married Emma Jewell at First Christian Church. They raised three
boys.
In 1975, Bob was offered a job with Zeigler Coal Company in Newman. In 1977, Bob was
transferred to the Coulterville plant where he was superintendent of the new washer. After
20 years, he retired.
Bobs hobbies were farming, fishing, lawn work and gardening.
Bob is survived by his wife, Emma and their children Brad (Patty) Cash of Sparta, Brent
(Lisa Chandler) Cash of Willisville and Brian (Kim) Cash of Sparta; grandchildren Lindsay
