Rob Cassidy passed away on January 28, 2025. He was 69 years old.
Rob grew up in
Millis, MA and lived in Holliston, MA for most of his adult life. He was the son of George and Regina Cassidy of Millis, He is survived by his brother Bruce, sister Clare Rumbel and her husband Bill, nephews David, Drew and Colin and his best friend Donna Smith who had shared his life for many years.
Rob's passion was history and politics, especially those relating to Massachusetts and to the Democratic party. He was a lifelong advocate of equal rights for persons suffering disabilities and had been instrumental in passing state and federal legislation to protect their rights.
Rob attended Millis Public schools, Xaverian Brothers High School, St. Anselm's College and Framingham State College majoring in history and political science. He was employed for many years as an auditor by private banks of HUD and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He also worked as a Legislative Aide in Boston and for a number of national, statewide and local communities for the democratic party. He was a member of the Massachusetts Democratic State Committee for many years and was a co-founder of the Middlesex, Norfolk and Worcester Counties Democratic Alliance and the Millis and Holliston Democratic Town Committee. He was also a member of the Holliston Finance Committee and was elected a presidential elector by the Democratic State Committee in 2004. He ran for the Massachusetts State Assembly in 2000 and walked the entire district to talk to voters.
Rob had an encyclopedic knowledge of the history of the town of Millis and its citizens, spending years researching both well known and little-known facts about the town's growth and development over 150 years. His many friends and relatives shared with him their memories of childhood, youth and adulthood and enjoyed retelling those memories and weaving them into the town's fabric. Rob had a "gift of gab". He loved to talk to people and to help solve problems wherever he could.
He spent many years as a volunteer "perpetual care" worker at the local cemeteries and he would regale all with stories about all the families whose loved ones rested there. He also spent many years volunteering for the Massachusetts Epilepsy Foundation and was a member of its board of directors. He was a proud member of the Rev. Joseph H. Cassidy Council of the Knights of Columbus. Rob was most proud of his own family and especially of his mom and dad. All of their friends were his friends too.
