Our beloved Robert Anthony Chiulli, of Rocky Hill, CT passed away peacefully at Hartford Hospital on Wednesday July 17th, 2024, at the age of 82. Affectionately referred to as Bob or Bobby, he was born in Hartford, CT on January 12, 1942. Bob is survived by his long-time love and fiancé Rebecca Alvarez. He leaves behind his sons Robert Chiulli Jr., Daniel Chiulli and his daughter Laura Chiulli; his six grandchildren Rachel Chiulli, Vanessa (Chiulli) Walsh and husband Shane, Daniel Chiulli Jr., Amanda Chiulli, Lana Cervero and Lexi Cervero. He also leaves his sister Sylvia (Chiulli) Yeske (and her late husband Alfred Yeske); his late brother Alfred Chiulli Jr's wife Angela Chiulli, and many close relatives and friends, including his former wife, Barbara Vancour. Bob was preceded in death by his father Alfred Chiulli, his mother Loretta (Liberatore) Chiulli, stepmother Susan Chiulli; brother Alfred Chiulli Jr (warmly referred to as "Jr."); sister Lorraine (Chiulli) Santacroce and her husband Fred Santacroce, and numerous very dear family members and friends.
Bob will be fondly remembered as an extremely kind and caring person who was always there to help family, friends and anyone needing a helping hand. In March 1973, He was awarded the Honorary Presidential Commendation by President Nixon for his selfless and brave act of risking his life to rescue a man from his burning home.
Bob loved his family with all his heart; his best times were spent with his family, especially watching his grandchildren, making us laugh with his great sense of humor and jokes, telling funny and wild stories about his younger years, eating and playing cards with his loved ones, watching animal shows and Westerns, and snuggling with his pets.
Bob's mom passed away when he was only 2 years old, and he was lovingly brought up by many of his relatives in Hartford. Initially, Bob was raised by his father, grandmother (Laurina Liberatore), his Aunt Phil, Aunt Jenny, Aunt Kay, and his eldest sibling, Lorraine. When his sister, Lorraine and her husband, Fred, moved to their own home in Hartford, they took Bob in to live with them for several years until he went to high school. Then Bob moved back in with his father, sister (Sylvia), and brother (Jr.) until he was married. He married young, and it was very important for him to provide for his family, and he worked very hard accomplishing that; Bob was an astute businessman, along with his well-respected brother (Alfred Chiulli Jr.), further building up the already successful family business of Chiulli Trucking Company (Hartford / Rocky Hill) that they inherited from their father (Alfred Chiulli). Bob and Jr. often butted heads but they were family and loved each other, and their differences helped to balance out the company; and once the children of Bob and Jr. became involved in the family business it led to a great many of funny and crazy stories. The family business ultimately divested, and then Bob also prospered by starting another trucking and construction company (Robert Chiulli & Sons); until retiring to build homes in Rocky Hill, CT.
Dad, you will forever be in our hearts. We love you.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am Wednesday, July 31st at the Church of the Incarnation, Christ the King Parish, 544 Prospect St. Wethersfield, CT. Following the Mass, the Interment will follow at 12:00 pm in the Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, 1 Cottage Grove Rd. Bloomfield, CT. All friends and family are welcome to attend.
