Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brenner Mortuary Funeral & Cremation Services on Mar. 12, 2026.
I am home in heaven, dear ones, oh so happy and so bright. There is perfect joy and beauty in this everlasting light.
Robert Alan Cuthbertson 78, of Pittsburg, Ks, passed away peacefully from leukemia on March 11, 2026 at his home.
Bob was born June 17, 1947 in Pittsburg, Ks. His parents were Robert Allen "Bob" and Sarah Marie (Grasso) Cuthbertson. He was raised in Pittsburg attending Horace Mann Grade School, graduating from College High School in 1965 and from Pitt State University in 1969 with a degree in political science. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church and during college he worked as a part time janitor there polishing pews to a shiny finish. After graduating from Pitt State he taught school for a few years and was then drafted into the army. But he was such an excellent trumpet player he was chosen to play in the United States Army Band. He was stationed in Germany and toured Europe for 3 years. Upon returning from Germany he was assigned to Ft. Leavenworth where he played taps at the National Cemetery.
Upon completion of his service in the army he went to K-State University and received his degree in health administration. He spent many years as a nursing home administrator at several different places. He also spent 22 years as a minister at the Mulberry Presbyterian Church. He served as Chaplain at the American Legion Post in Mulberry and also did the memorial service at Rosebank Cemetery in Mulberry.
Bob's enjoyment in life was playing his trumpet in the College High band, going to Pitt State football games, watching KU basketball games on tv, his love for vintage cars and he had a genuine passion for visiting the elderly at nursing homes.
His survivors are Judith, his loving wife, Children: Matthew Cuthbertson (wife, Kat), Staci Nardone (husband, Mark). Grandchildren: Brynn, Maddie, Xander, Audrey, Dakota, and Noah. Sons by marriage: Greg Vacura, Rodman Vacura, Andrew Vacura and Martin Sickawitch. Grandchildren by marriage: Coley, Luke, and Kelvin. Sibling: Mary Sue Johnson (husband, Eric). And his little Lulu who he loved so much! He is preceded by his parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday March 18 with the visitation beginning a 10:00 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11:00 at Brenner Mortuary with Chaplain Johnie Adkins officiating. Memorials may be given to Gideons International, Friends may leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com. Arrangements are under the direction of Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg, Kansas.
All the pain and grief is over, every restless tossing passed; I am now at peace forever safely home in heaven at last.
