Robert C. Demechko, 85, passed away peacefully, Monday, Oct. 2, 2023, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born March 21, 1938, on the east side of Youngstown at his home, a son of Joseph and Anna Repasky Demechko.

Robert lived a remarkable life dedicated to craftsmanship and artistry. After graduating from East High School in 1957 and serving his country as a paratrooper for the United States Army, he embarked on a fulfilling career as a carpenter. Over the years, he worked for several local companies and was most recently employed by the Joe Perkins Company. Robert’s exceptional skills and dedication to his craft earned him the respect and admiration of both colleagues and clients.

Beyond his work and military service, Robert had a passion for motorcycles. He was proud to be a member of the motorcycle group, “Pirates” and the Hog Club, where he formed lifelong friendships with fellow enthusiasts who shared his love for the open road. Robert also remained committed to his trade by being an active member of the carpenters unions for over five decades.

One of Robert’s proudest accomplishments was his talent as a self-taught sculptor. His artistic abilities flourished over time, leading him to win various art awards at the Butler Art Museum and Canfield Fair.

Robert is survived by his daughter, Teri Ann Henry of Chester, Virginia; sons, Steven (Rose) Demechko and David (Tena) Demechko, both of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; sister, Marg Schindler of Austintown; brother, Edward (Bernie) Demechko of Austintown; daughter-in-law, Ruth Demechko of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Kenneth Payne of Poland and Lyn (Brian) Norr of California, Matthew and Madison Demechko of Oklahoma, Robert (Sierra) Demechko of California, Jessie Demechko of Oklahoma, Drew (Paula) Demechko of Texas and Payton Demechko; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Audrey; son, Robert Edward Demechko; sisters, Anna Rohbaugh and Florence Kittle; and his brother, Joseph Demechko.

Calling hours will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 17, 2024, at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel, 2726 Center Road. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Holy Family Church.
