Robert Diemond Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McWilliams Funeral Home - Alpena on Dec. 9, 2023.
Robert Joseph "Bob" Diemond, a cherished son, father, brother, uncle, and friend, left this world on December 8, 2023, at the age of 85. Born on August 19, 1938, in Alpena to the late Walter and Jeannette (Thompson) Diemond, Bob's early years were filled with the warmth of a close-knit family and the simple joys of small-town life. It was in this beloved hometown of Alpena that Bob drew his last breath, surrounded by the memories and people he held dear.
Bob's journey through life was marked by a steadfast dedication to his family and a passion for the open road. For over 40 years, he proudly drove over the road having received multiple "Million Mile" awards, sharing stories of his travels and the many friendships he formed along his routes. His work was not just a job but a calling that allowed him to explore the vastness of the country he loved so deeply. Bob also served his country proudly having enlisted in the Air Force shortly after high school.
Bob leaves behind his brother, Wayne "Tom" Diemond, his nieces Bobi Sue Kaszubowski and Kim Diemond (Laine Falk), and his nephews Robert (Sue) Dingman, Jr. and Jeff (Shirley) Diemond. He joins in eternal rest his son, Christian, his life partner, Jessie Mae Roth, his parents, his brother William "Bill" Diemond, and his sister Sally Diemond Dingman, who preceded him in death. Bob's extended family, including Jason Frick and Amber Ross, will remember his larger-than-life presence and the indelible mark he left on their lives.
Bob's involvement in the community was exemplified by his active membership in the Alpena Shrine Club providing transportation to over 40 children to the Shriners Hospital. He was also a member of the Alpena-Hopper Lodge #199 F. & A.M. where he served as a past Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star. His fellow lodge members will remember him not only for his dedicated service but also for the camaraderie and quick wit he brought to every gathering.
An avid history buff, Bob had a particular fascination with the Civil War era. His knowledge of the period was extensive, and he could often be found engrossed in a book or documentary, eager to learn more about the events that shaped the nation. Bob's love of history was matched by his enthusiasm for collecting guns, a hobby that allowed him to connect with fellow collectors and enthusiasts.
Perhaps one of Bob's most cherished pastimes was playing poker with his friends and family at his brothers' camp with both poor skill and humor. He will be greatly missed.
Bob has been taken for cremation with no services planned at this time. Arrangements have been handled by McWilliams Funeral Home.

I’m so sorry to read about Bob’s passing. We had been friends since 1981. We met at a CB coffee group. He was always upbeat and always laughing. Bob will be missed.

I believe that "bob" was a 1957 graduate with me at Alpena High School. And I knew his brother "Bill" who was a great guitar player and we were in a play together at Catholic Central High School. Sally operated a Care Home in Alpena. My mother Rachel Longcore lived there until she died. The last time I saw Bob was when he visited the Care Home and I was there to see my mother. I send my condolences to his family and mourn the passing of a fellow classmate. Jerry Longcore
