Robert Neal Duran passed away on April 12, 2025 in
Klamath Falls, Oregon.
Robert was born in
Klamath Falls, Oregon, on July 11, 1946, to Jose Tobias Duran and Madonna (McAninch) Duran. He was the baby of his family, coming five years after his sister, Gladys. He grew up in Tulelake, California, but made many trips to Colorado to visit the Duran side of his family.
During his childhood, Robert participated in Boy Scouts, fished and hunted with his dad, and pestered his sister, Gladys. During high school. Robert was known as a "Tank" on the football field, and he proudly carried the nickname the rest of his life. He was president of his FFA chapter, enjoyed cruising main street ("dragging main") with his buddies and attending the local street dances. It was at one of these street dances where he met his sweetheart, Ann.
Ann and Robert welcomed their first daughter, Sheri, in 1966 followed by Veronica in 1971. They spent many weekends taking the family to Butte Creek to enjoy time in the outdoors while eating his dad's fried potatoes along with Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC). When he was not spending time with his family in the woods, Robert could be found logging. Although logging was strenuous on his body, Robert looked back on it fondly. He had many conversations about his time in the woods and shared his logging stories with everyone. Aside from working, he cherished his time with his seven grandchildren.
Whether it was a sports game, riding bikes, building wooden swords, or simply playing, Robert was with his grandkids. He taught them more lessons than could be counted, and gave them more love than could be expressed in words. He gave this same love to his great-grandchildren during the last five years of his life.
All his great-grandchildren were his babies. He would drive multiple hours each week to just spend time with them. When "Campca" was around, there was never a shortage of ice cream, dance parties, or coast trips. Robert will be greatly missed by all his babies, grandchildren, friends, family, daughter, and his sweetheart, Ann.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents Toby and Madonna Duran; siblings Jack, Barbara, Toby, and Gladys; sister-in-law Mary Renfro; brothers-in-law Marshall Guthrie and Oliver Lawson; parents-in-law Dean and Jasper Guthrie, and daughter Sheri Mae Grim. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ann Duran; daughter Veronica Renfro (Pat); Son-in-law Jay Grim; grandchildren: Seth, Zack, and Wyatt Grim, Dustin Massey (Tonisha), Dakota Massey (Jennifer), D'Anna Plass (Luke), Devon Massey (Jayvee); and great-grandchildren: Ellis Massey, Arlo Massey, Eliza, Everly, and Eamon Plass, and Phoenix Cuyos. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A graveside service will take place on May 2, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in the Malin Community Cemetery. Directly following the service, there will be a reception at the Merrill Civic Center.
Those who have a motorcycle or classic car are encouraged to drive them to the service in remembrance of Robert and his love of Harleys and hotrods. Those who feel inclined to do so should also wear a touch of red.
