Robert Lee Evans, 64 of Big Spring (affectionally known as "Thin") fell asleep in death, Thursday 3/27/2025 at Shannon Memorial Hospital after a brief battle with illness.
Robert was given the gift of life on July 11, 1960 to parents Thomas Jasper Sr. and Gwendolyn Ann Evans in Lubbock, Texas. Robert took an oath to defend his country and was a Veteran of the United States Army. Robert lived in Big Spring most of his life outside of his military career. He received his certification as a Dental Hygienist and worked at NASA while living in Denver, CO. He was most recently employed at WTVAH in Big Spring, Texas in dietary service to fellow Veterans.
He is survived by a daughter Audrey Evans (of whom he spoke affectionately) of Phoenix, Arizona, his brothers Thomas Evans, Jr. (T.J), Richard Evans (Phoebe), all of Big Spring, Texas, Gary Evans (Joanie) of San Antonio, Texas. He also leaves to cherish his memories a host of relatives including an aunt, uncle, many cousins, nephews and nieces who loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 20 years Laura Leuna Ward-Evans, his beloved parents Thomas Jasper, Sr. and Gwendolyn Ann Evans, his older brother Louis Butler Evans and an older sister, who died in infancy Shirley Ann Evans.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to WTVAH and Shannon Memorial Hospital for the loving care they patiently extended to Robert during these recent months and last days of his illness.
Arrangements made under the direction of Myers and Smith Funeral Home with Military Honors by the Army at Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene, Texas.
Funeral service will be 10 AM Friday, April 11, 2025 at Myers & Smith Chapel. Graveside service will be 2 PM Friday, April 11, 2025 at Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene.
