Robert Austin Finch, a longtime member of our community, was born on February 1, 1935, in Anutt, Missouri, a son of the late Vernon Austin Finch and Doris Maxine (Conaway) Finch. Bob, as most knew him, departed this life on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson, at the age of 90.
On September 15, 1955, Bob was united in marriage to Barbara Wilson. Together, Bob and Barb shared 60 wonderful years—a partnership marked by love, devotion, and unwavering support. Bob was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, always placing his family at the center of his life.
Bob was proud to have served his country in the United States Army from October 14, 1953, to September 11, 1956, including service during the Korean War. His dedication to service continued throughout his life as a proud member of the American Legion Post #265. He was also a longtime and committed member of the Potosi Masonic Lodge #131, where he earned his 50-year pin.
A man of faith, Bob attended Springtown Baptist Church for many years and God willing- never missed. His Christian values guided him and shaped the gentle, humble way he treated others.
Bob learned the meaning of hard work early in life. He worked alongside his father in construction, helping build homes and earning just $1.00 an hour when he first began. He also assisted on the family farm, tending to cattle and embracing the responsibilities of rural life. These early experiences shaped him into the dependable, hardworking man he remained throughout his life.
Bob found great joy in the outdoors. He was a passionate fisherman and hunter who loved spending time at his favorite spot, Meramec Springs. His goal was always to catch enough fish to host a good old-fashioned fish fry for family and friends.
Above all, Bob was a proud “Poppa.” He supported his grandchildren with all his heart—often seen sitting in his lawn chair or in the bleachers, cheering them on at every event. His steady presence and loving encouragement were constants in their lives.
Bob never met a stranger. He had a natural gift for storytelling and was always ready to share a memory, a laugh, or a kind word. His warmth and genuine interest in others made him a friend to many and a beloved member of the community.
Bob is survived by his loving family, including his four children: Cathy Ferguson (husband, Greg), Martha Sue Politte, Misty Jarvis (husband, Nathan), and Brady Finch and his fiancé, Emily; seven grandchildren: Kimberly Thebeau Pavletic (husband, Nick), Lyndsey Thebeau Wood, Paige Scherffius and Mason Henson, Samantha Crump and Kenny Farley, Jason E. Portell (wife, Angela), Amy Wendling (Ben), and Mark Ferguson; twelve great-grandchildren: Xavier, Jaxon, Ian, Scarlett, Ruby Sue, Elena, Andrew, Emily, Lance (Cheyenne), Riley (Kassee), Grace, and Jake; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Finch; his daughter, Cynthia Crump; and his brother, Dwight Finch.
Visitation will be held Sunday, November 16, 2025, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., and Monday, November 17, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of his Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m., at the DeClue Memorial Chapel. Pastor Joe Jackson will officiate the service. Interment and final prayers will follow at New Masonic Cemetery in Potosi, Missouri.
