Robert Glendenning Obituary

Robert James Glendenning, Jr., 100, of Genoa, Ill., passed away Monday, March 9, 2026, at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born Aug. 3, 1925, in Genoa, the son of Robert J. and Lulu (Turner) Glendenning, Robert married Dorothy Kettley, in 1944 at the First United Methodist Church of DeKalb.

A veteran of the US Marine Corps, having served during World War II from 1943 to 1946 in the Pacific Theater, Robert was an auto mechanic until retiring.

A lifetime member of VFW, Robert enjoyed trains, airplanes and woodworking, and liked to hunt and fish, back in the day. A tinkerer who was always fixing things, Robert was strong-willed and tended to have a clear vision for how things needed to be done, sharing the way he would accomplish something - preceded by the phrase, "All I'm saying is …" - but he had a sweet side, too.

Robert is survived by his children, Ron (Christine) Glendenning, Steve (Connie Mohney) Glendenning, Kate Taylor, and Deb (Hoss) Karl; grandchildren, Rusty (Docia), Tina (David), Crystal (Marc) and Jimme (Steve); step-grandchildren, Dan (Michelle) Darren (Suzi), Ryan, Ryanna (Buck), and Angela (Chris); great-grandchildren, Jacob, Samantha (Terrell), D.J. (Katie), Tyler (Ty), Dylan, Andrew, Nathan, Alissa, Ava, Hannah, Grant, Brookelyn, Maddie, Ashlyn (Lucas), Jason (McKensey), Paige, and Darin; great-great-grandchildren, Fiona, Weston, Jordy, Riley.

He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy, March 24, 1974; parents; son-in-law, French Taylor; grandchildren, Jennifer Taylor and Jason Karl; step-grandson, Jason Taylor; and sisters, infant Darcella Glendenning, Roberta Kimmey, Betty Swanson and Blanch Robinson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Robert's name to Genoa Rescue Squad.

Funeral Service will be held at 11 am Friday, March 13, 2026, at Olson's Cooper Quiram Chapel, 202 E. Main St., Genoa, IL 60135, following visitation from 10 am to 11 am. Burial will be at Genoa Cemetery, East Hill and South Sycamore streets, Genoa, with Military Honors.

The family extends special thanks to Michelle from Visiting Angels for her care above and beyond, to Genoa Rescue, to the nurses from Heartland Hospice for their compassionate care of Robert, as well as his special someone, John Hills, and Matt Farrell.
