John Roser

John Frederick Roser, 75, of Kirkland, Ill., passed away Monday, Feb. 23, 2026, at Wm. S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital, Madison, Wis., surrounded by his loving family.

Born Jan. 19, 1951, in Batavia, the son of John E. and Marilyn J. (Oberwise) Roser, John married Lorene M. Hoffman on Dec. 8, 1973, in Kirkland.

A veteran of the US Navy from 1969 to 1978, having served in the Vietnam War, John was an electrician's mate in the Navy, and became an electrician in civilian life.

Formerly a member of First Lutheran in Kirkland, he was locally known as "Face" in Kingston. Sarcastic, he was always a comedian to keep the mood light and to make people laugh; he also was honest, and was loved by his family. John enjoyed shooting, as well as studying the Bible, but Grandpa loved being with his grandkids more. He loved playing horseshoes, and loved dogs, but cats not so much.

John is survived by his wife, Lorene; his children, Shelly (Josh) Pfluger, Chris Roser, Julia Wonders, and Katie (Joel) Niebuhr; grandchildren, Truman, Grayson, Maddy, Lilly, Jocelyn, and Alexis; siblings, Kathy Hamma, David, and Mary A. (Jim) Loomis; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents in 1976 and 2020, 44 years apart, to the day; a brother, Robert, in 1987; sons-in-law, Jeff Wonders, and Kurt Fischer; and brothers-in-law, Mike Hamma, Victor Bakanas, and Stuart Hoffman.

Funeral Service will be held at 11 am Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026, at Olson's Quiram Kirkland Chapel, 309 S. Fifth St., Kirkland, IL 60146, following visitation at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Charter Oak Cemetery, Kirkland.

Visitation will held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, at the funeral home.

The family thanks the staff at Community Living Center Hospice and the VA hospital for their compassionate care of John. The family extends special thanks his oncologist, Dr. Kratz at VA Madison, and Dr. Michalsen in Kirkland.
