Robert Louis Grannan, born on February 27, 1931 in Wayne, Michigan, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2024 at home.
A 1949 graduate of Wayne Memorial High School, Robert ("Bob") – who went by various nicknames ("Two Gun" and "Reverend" among them) – played basketball and football in high school but his lifelong passion was golf. He is a veteran of the Korean conflict and attended Wayne State University after having been discharged.
He met Phyllis, his wife of 67 years, while out dancing and they married on June 15, 1957. Together, they raised two children, Diana (Grannan) Lang and Michael Grannan and enjoyed their retired years surrounded by four loving grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Robert is survived by all of them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Ruth (Loughmiller) Grannan as well as his only sibling, Camilla (Grannan) Underwood.
Bob made his living as an accountant with the Wayne County Dept. of Community Mental Health and enjoyed forty years of retirement at the home he built on Hidden Lake, north of Howell, Michigan.
He and Phyllis were long-time members of the First Presbyterian Church of Howell, where he put his financial expertise to good use on various committees over the years.
He will perhaps be best remembered for his quiet, reserved nature accompanied by an often-unexpected sense of humor. He was a dog lover and enjoyed the outdoors, camping, skiing, golfing, and travelling.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to the Arbor Day Foundation in his memory.
Visitation will be held for Bob from 3-7pm on Friday, Nov. 8, 2024 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, MacDonald Chapel, 315 N. Michigan Ave. in Howell. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024 at First Presbyterian Church-Howell, 323 W. Grand River Ave. in Howell. It will begin at 11 AM following a short visitation at 10 AM. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bob's life and legacy.
