Robert Lee Gunn, Jr., 78, of Chester, VA, passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 in Waverly, VA. Born in Petersburg, VA on July 22, 1945, he was the son of the late Robert Lee Gunn, Sr. and Alma Smelley Gunn. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Brenda Sue Gunn, and his brother, Richard N. Gunn.
Robert was a longtime member of Ivey Memorial Methodist Church in S. Chesterfield, VA, where he was very active and dedicated, especially with the church’s different fundraisers. He retired from Dupont after many years of working as a millwright. He was a member of the Waverly Hunt Club, Hopewell Moose Lodge, and Corvette Club of Richmond. Robert was an avid outdoorsman, often found hunting or fishing which was his true passion. He was well known for his dedication to helping others, and he adored his family who will miss him immensely.
He is survived by his loving wife, Diana C. Gunn; two sons, Robert Tracy Gunn and Stephen Harris Gunn and wife, Sarah; two step-daughters, Katherine Anderson and husband, Scot, and Judy Garner and husband, Scot; sisters, Brenda Harrup and husband, Dennis, and Patricia Peden; grandchildren, Parker and Logan Gunn, Stephen Gunn and wife, Ashley, and Brandon Gunn, Maddie and Mo Anderson, and Jacob and Hayden Garner; great-granddaughters, Peighton and Skylar Gunn; and numerous extended family members and friends.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard Colonial Heights, VA 23834. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 13, 2023, in Sunset Memorial Park, 2901 W Hundred Road, Chester, VA 23831.
