Bob was born on February 5, 1934, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and had ten brother and sisters. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, where he served in the Korean war and obtained the rank of sergeant. He was one of the first troops to protect the DMZ line.
After serving, he returned to Eau Claire, Wisconsin and married his pen pal girlfriend Angie. He obtained a job at CPC International, and they began their life in the suburbs of Chicago.
Bob was an avid fisherman and looked forward to football season, so he could root his favorite team on, The Green Bay Packers.
Upon retirement after 40 years, he and his wife moved to Camdenton and enjoyed living on the lake. Bob was a carpenter millwright by trade and now loved to putz around in the garage with his saws, making lots of wooden items for his family and friends. Bob was also a talented artist who painted many wildlife and landscape paintings.
One of his many highlights was going on several Canadien fly fishing trips with his family. He joined the Marine League in Kaiser, Missouri and participated in many fundraising activities to support the troops and toys for tots. He enjoyed being an elf at Christmas while his wife was Mrs. Claus. He was honored when the marine league named their annual College Scholarship "The Sergeant Robert Holmes Scholarship."
Bob was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He leaves a wonderful legacy and will be deeply missed by all his family and friends. We will especially miss his marvelous sense of humor. He truly exemplified the meaning of the words Semper Fi.
